The title track is a Latin scorcher, this rare take on the Bobby Caldwell classic will bring warmth to any dancefloor. Got to Find a Way is a flip on the master of soul, as poignant and important as ever after a year of protests. The green side takes you deeper with a dubbed out and extended modern soul number, cut beats, dusty horns and a strong vocal. The closing track is a much-needed extension to a feel-good favourite, 100% DJ material. That’s more than enough edits for you.

Shakarchi & Stranéus inhabit a secret place in the universe of music, one existing at the intersection of Scandinavian poplands, Hisingen forest raves and outernational placelessness.

Faik Shakarchi and Daniel Stranéus famously started making beats together in the Gothenburg tapas-joint coat check where they both worked as clerks. Their now 10-year old friendship is the story of legends, their sparse vinyl output the secret love of deep house 12'' enthusiasts round the globe – the warm, vibrant sounds found on those records a stark contrast to the stripped-down efficiency of their marathon DJ sets, frequently heard within the more nefarious parts of Swedish nightlife.

The duo has also been a part of Studio Barnhus since the very beginning, first letting us into their strange yet cozy world with the Dödskallar och korallrev EP in 2010, effectively turning what was then a one-release operation into a Record Label.

The distinctive sound of that early material (described by one Discogs commenter as “enlightened, naive future dub for children”) has been expanded upon and further defined on their debut album Steal Chickens from Men and the Future from God, its 12 cuts lovingly selected from a plethora of works floating in and out of makeshift studios from Storgatan to Gamlestan over the last 7 years. The record took its final form at Nacksving, same place where recent albums from Talaboman and Kornél Kovács were sonically perfected in cahoots with mix engineer Matt Karmil.

Steal Chickens from Men and the Future from God is released on all digital platforms, as CD and as DJ friendly double vinyl on March 23rd 2018. The label and the artists wish to thank Statens kulturråd for their endless patience during the creation of this masterpiece.

It’s a strange new post-everything musical landscape we occupy. The machines - you could argue - have been playing the humans for some time, and the conversation became pretty one-sided. The focus now is metrics not moments. A million transcendent dance floor events condensed into monetisable data, the compost in which ‘likes’ and ‘solid socials’ are grown, but little else. 
Being regularly bludgeoned with forgettable new music has taken its toll. But you know, not everyone is singing from that hymn sheet. Thatmanmonkz enjoyed the apprenticeship at House PLC more than the opportunity to progress to middle management.  Itchy musical feet meant extended exploration of fertile avenues of interest like the Madison Washington & Pan Amsterdam Hip Hop projects, meanwhile the pull of the 4/4 was never far from the studio door, and all accomplished with an assured versatility that shines. 
Musical alliances formed in the disparate but related playgrounds of Detroit, Sheffield, Berkeley and Atlanta, all underpinned by an emphasis on seeking out collaborations and gigs, which represented a real exchange of energies, rather than a bank raid. 
Letting things percolate in this more measured way means we’ve arrived here, a follow up of sorts to 2016’s ‘Columbusing’. This is Monkz allowing the ear ringing of gigs to feedback organically into bright dance floor flashes, which by virtue of their careful crafting are destined to last much longer. 
On "Non Zero Sum Game", we get a much greater economy of elements on the pared down dance floor ammo like ‘Freaks N Prophets’ & ‘Chai Tea’, a perfect counterpoint to beautifully realised pieces like ‘Them thangz feat Ms Fae’ & ‘After Dark with Nikki O’ interspersed with funk-heavy workouts and sample jams like ‘Easy Still’,  ‘LvnLmtd’ & the unashamedly KDJ influenced shamanism of ‘WhatUthinkIDo' 
It’s a pick ‘em and stick ‘em ride of individual gems and a cohesive whole too. The opposite of thrown together, this has been worked and weathered, naturally.  The House always wins, but sometimes…just sometimes.

Production heroes Moodymann and Kenny Dope revisit one of electronic music’s foundation records, Rude Movements by SunPalace, with brand new remixes issued on BBE Music’s vinyl-only offshoot imprint ALIM.

Presented on strictly limited 7” vinyl, Moodymann and Kenny Dope pay tribute to a New York Loft classic first made famous by David Mancuso, which strongly influenced both artists early in their careers, as well as helping to shape the early House Music movement in the hands of Larry Levan, Nicky Siano, Frankie Knuckles and Danny Krivit among many others.

Two of the modern electronic scene’s most consistent innovators and elevators, Moodymann and Kenny Dope were selected by SunPalace producer Mike Collins himself to rework the track. Sadly, Mike passed away in late 2018 before either version was completed, but as a fan of both artists, we’re sure Mike would have been excited by both of these loving and reverent revisions to his iconic work.

Recorded in 1981s at Mike’s home studio in London, ‘Rude Movements’ was originally released as the B-Side to a track called ‘Winning’. A true Brit-funk oddity, the track’s improvised nature and lack of vocal hooks initially consigned it to obscurity, until its pristine sonics and irrepressible groove caught the ear of David Mancuso and he presented it at his already influential Loft Party.

Moodymann’s remix retains the ‘jammed’ feel of Rude Movements, introducing stellar flute, sax and piano solos over the groove, while remaining utterly faithful to the original vibe.

Kenny Dope’s ‘Dancefloor Powder’ version adds a vintage Afro-Latin drum break into the mix, while showcasing the original’s epic synth solo.

A deluxe double vinyl package containing extended versions of these remixes, plus several more, is planned for release on BBE Music in 2021. ...
