Hot off a now sold-out 7" maiden voyage straight from Germany’s Black Forest, Kibbi Gibbon swung back around to the Star Creature HQ with an album’s worth of likeminded galactic relaxation techniques. U.F.O. out of gas? Their debut LP's seven slabs of DX 7, Prophet 8 and Fender-fuelled space funk instrumentals landed somewhere in between an Ibizan beachfront and a Mario Kart character selection screen, but can also be found here, beamed to you with determination and care. Limited to 300 copies so don't sleep.
Kibbi Gibbon is a studio project created deep within Germany's Black Forrest with a goal of producing chill Balearic-esque, spaced-out jazz-funk, synth-boogie hybrid tunes. The main producer and instrumentalist is Georgy Whistler, a known figure in the head-nod underground Deutschlandic hip hop scene. Over the past 10 years, Whistler has produced and recorded albums with wide range of European collaborators lending his trademark downtempo touch to many records. Whistler taps up DJ associate La Bananasenza and saxophonist Marco Podobnik to round out the studio band. 
Though much of what’s hitting the global scene out of Germany these days favours the trending sounds of Berlin, Kibbi’s music is quite the opposite – both in sound and locale – hailing from the opposite side of the country; Freiburg Im Breisgau, the furthest domestic city from the techno Mecca. Despite being landlocked smack dab in the middle of Europe, this fresh new outfit promises to deliver us a Balearic breath of fresh air that fits perfectly within the Star Creature contemplative instrumental funk scene. Perfect vibes for the Italian or Portuguese Coasts, late night soirees in San Sebastian or moonlit soundscapes at Falassarna Beach

Walking along the platform he peered in through the dirty windows to catch a glimpse of the faces preparing to make their journey far, far away. The station echoed with the sound of a neverending tannoy which groaned and groaned with more promise and urgency with each horrible announcement. It was as if they liked to prepare you for the bitter goodbye long before you cast one solitary wave into the distance as the train whirred away. This was the way of the world.

Celestial electronics are always at the heart of James Welsh’s music, via a number releases for labels such as Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound, Wolf Music and Hypercolour.  “Hammers” is Welsh’s second release for Futureboogie (following 2013’s “Craven” EP), and finds the UK based producer on particular fine form.

With its airy pads and shrouded ambience, “Hammers” drives a 303 bass line right through its centre, perfectly balancing the tracks emotive and darker sides.

Hodge (Livity Sound/Hemlock) comes on board with an industrial sized remix, carving out some heavyweight tribal drums and additional percussion and letting the acid do its tweakable thing.

“Denergy” meanwhile channels some electro tinged bassline moves over super funky, tight drums, a flourishing acid line, and laced with the futurism and sound aesthetics that’s keeping James Welsh at the top of his game.

We are super pleased to welcome back Dan Only with a brand new EP on Dirt Crew. Since last year’s debut record “The Wurly Chronicles” Dan has been super busy in the studio working on his sound, experimenting with many genres outside of House. This EP is the product of many late hours in the studio that translate into his unique touch on a wider spectrum of electronic music.

On The A-side you will find that deep and warm House sound we got to know Dan for when we first crossed paths. “Someday” is an exploration into the feeling of hopefulness and uncertainty that comes with looking towards a future state that is unknown. It’s steered by AHKI's bouncing bassline and the chord progression that it inspired. “All That’s Left (Piano Dub Mix)” has a driving groove with a slow reveal. This one carefully unmasks itself and shows its true colors towards the tail-end, leaving you with “All That’s Left”.

The B-side of this 12” is all about breaks, electro, and jungle inspired tunes. The opener “Emulsion” is a balance between light and dark, soft and hard, speeding up and slowing down. The rhythm section drives this one forward, but the melodic elements are slowly pulling back at it, leaving you somewhere in the middle. It's a musical attempt of trying to mix oil into water and having one float on top of the other. "An emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally immiscible."

“What I Want” comes armed with an S950 and an MS20 – this one is a deep dive into the methods of making break- tinged music of the 90s. Brooding bass-lines and atmospheric melodies take you through the dark Canadian winter months when this was created. Closing with “Breathe”, expect waves of euphoria and gated mantras that'll pull you in and out until a state of bliss washes over you. Let the 909 and bubbling 101 carry you to shore. This one pairs well with deep breathing.

Enjoy this new excursion into the sonic worlds of Dan Only.
