The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Less Distress. The project of St. Petersburg's Polina Shelkova, The Russian artist, DJ and producer released her first EP, Tsar-City, on COUP label in 2019 and has since released more than 18 tracks on labels like RAW, ISMUS, MITSU2000, CRUNCH and more. 

She honed her craft in some of the city's most iconic spaces including Redrum, Mosaique and now at Blank, where you can regularly find her destroying dance floors with all shades of techno, hard grooves, rave, industrial and more which she brings in full power to this set.

A: "Dj Nevertheless - Since choosing Dj name years ago I’ve changed so much and this alias could capture the change. Nevertheless - “no matter what” - feels very me today. It also rhymes with the current one :)"

Berlin-based DJ and producer Less Distress debuts on our mix series, bringing with her an hour of galloping rhythms, psychedelic atmospheres and dreamy melodies with a metallic edge. With a sound that skips across several sonic palettes, the Russian-born artist has released on a wide range of established labels, including @mamatoldya, @positivesource, @akronymcollective, @inorbitrec, @rawppl and @coupprojekt amongst others. As a DJ, Less Distress has played in venues worldwide, from Fuse in Belgium to THEOFFICE in Armenia, and next up, you can find Less Distress in London in November for a party beginning with T and ending with E. BIO:

Old school techno, hard house, acid, modern and 90’s trance, industrial hard techno and fun motives of gabber, Less Distress tends to experiment with styles, moods and bpm.

Her DJ sets are a blend of high-paced music in which she tries to create an exiting sense of nostalgia, the main state of the dance floor that attracts her in modern rave culture.

Less Distress started to produce in 2014, her initial interest in music was laying outside of the club walls. However, many tracks later, she found herself inspired by the power of the dance floor and dedicated herself to the speedy genres. She reflected on the new fast techno scene with her first “Tsar-City” EP released on COUP. As a producer she stays within the frames of fast music, trying to express ideas and experiment with emotions, sticking to the traditional ways of making music and preferring warm analog sound from the machines.

This week on the Ismcast we have Less Distress.

Based in Saint Petersburg, Less Distress is a techno producer that creates fast-paced dance floor music that is not limited to one genre. Her influences are rooted in hard industrial sounds, old school tribal groove, and the deep emotions of Trance. She blends it all preferring warm analog sound from hardware. She made a fantastic contribution to part 3 of our third VA compilation just a few days ago.

The same diversity applies to her as a Dj. Being interested in different shades of techno, she experiments with styles, moods, and bpm, using both old school and modern elements to tell a consistent story.
