Fueled by a passion for improvisation and being influenced by the pioneering sounds of breakbeat and ambient, Jannik has honed a unique and minimalistic style, which has led him to release on Sleeparchive and our very own Frenzy Recordings with 'Desire' [FRNZYVA002]. 

Next to that, Jannik is one of the co-founders of the collective 'Diffraction' who provide nightlife to their hometown and surroundings. With a passion for innovation and a desire to live off of his creative pursuits, Jannik is excited to share his music with the world.

Set the Mood with Inez Akker!

This week, Inez Akker shares her vision of what makes a perfect opening set. With great pleasure, listeners can dive into a mix she has meticulously curated, demonstrating how every detail aligns. The energy builds seamlessly and tapers off beautifully at the end, embodying everything a remarkable opening set should be.

Inez Akker is an emerging Techno artist originally from Spain and currently based in the Netherlands. She began her musical journey in 2018 and quickly made a name for herself, debuting at H7 Warehouse and securing her first DJ residency with Papaya Records.

Her signature style, characterized by powerful, driving tunes, merges groovy and hypnotic elements atop a pounding beat. This distinctive approach has resonated with audiences at prominent venues such as Melkweg, Yellow House, RD Made (Amsterdam), PIP, Magazijn (The Hague), Nobel (Leiden), Edelfettwerk (Hamburg), The Host (Thessaloniki), and K.U.P.E. (Sofia), among others.

Over the years, Inez’s dedication and passion have earned her well-deserved recognition within the Techno scene. Among her notable achievements are winning SAE Amsterdam's ADE Production Challenge in 2022, establishing herself as a resident DJ at Techno Tuesday in Amsterdam, and securing multiple releases with respected labels like Elberec, Olympus, Cumulonimbus, To Be Black, Brace Brace Berlin, Second Impulse, and Winked Records. These accomplishments have firmly positioned her as a rising force in the world of Techno.

For Inez Akker, an opening set holds a vital yet often understated role in shaping the night. The tone of the event relies significantly on the warm-up DJ, making it an art form in itself. She views the warm-up as a chance to explore the intimate and fluid side of a DJ’s craft.

In this podcast, Inez has embraced this approach, creating a smooth journey that transitions from delicate, minimal sounds to more groovy tracks, eventually winding back down to a lower energy to prepare the stage for the next act. Through a refined and elegant progression, true to her hypnotic and groovy style, she has carefully crafted a balanced flow of tracks designed to subtly engage the audience and set the perfect tone for the night ahead.

Inez Akker - Set the Mood 027 (Oefenmeesters)

This final track of the set is centered around a field recording captured with my 3-year-old son while we were hiking. He was hitting some unused water pipes lying by the trail with a wooden stick, giving the track its distinctly industrial, metallic sound.

This personal sample was loaded into the Make Noise Morphagene. When triggered, the Morphagene is set to begin playback at a slightly different starting point each time, ensuring the metallic rhythm remains evolving and unpredictable.

This was recorded as the final segment of the one-take performance. The audio received minimal mastering in Ableton (compressor and limiter) for this SoundCloud version, but the live performance is otherwise untouched.
