It is impossible to start speaking professionally about Jose Angel Palacios Robles 'Joton' without drawing his first steps , which led from the track to the cabin , without falling into several topics that open the bios of dozens of Spanish DJs of the last decades… We will leave the more predictable 'literature' aside and go directly to 20 and many years (well into the XXI century), when Joton evidences his maturity as a dj: he takes on a style, technique and musical selection that identify him and can finally allow progressively the pleasure of selecting where to play on a Saturday.
We entered the millennium: finally the fear of 'Year 2000' dissipates and on the other hand Joton’s personality and charisma continue to publicize: his maturity as a dj, conducted with serenity and discretion make him continue growing until the year 2001 when he creates the label 'Newrhythmic'. This label gives name to a clothing store + albums, and it is here where his base of operations is established to date.

Joton reaffirms in the genre he likes, with the one that most he is identified with and the one he blends as few rookies: dark techno, mixed with precision and speed. On special occasions and under the aka 'Sonny Crockett', Joton explores sounds from tech-house and electro, but he soon moves away from this aspect to focus on the purest techno.

In 2005 he starts producing his own music and presents his 1st reference with Newrhythmic: a vinyl 12 "with Aitor Ronda. Since then Joton has grown to publish his work on international labels such as Naked Lunch , Inspired Dynamic Reflection , Psychoskunk , Injected Poison , Consumer Recreation Services , Parallel 125 , Amigos
Take more Music , Induxxtriall , Disclosure , Kentra ...

Joton opens 2012 with over 70 signed references, and among them there are collaborations with world-renowned producers such as Ben Sims, Oscar Mulero, Pacou, Exium, Paul Mac, Grovskopa, A. Paul, Radial, Baas Mooy, Jeroen Search, Christian Wunsch ... Joton is now indisputably a professional dj and producer. He finds the possibility, so long sounded, to devote himself fully to music.

As for work in the cabin: from 2005 shares space with devoted dj's as Kazu Kimura, Pepo or Exium ... and he continually learns from them. He runs with them their `tours’ around the peninsula. Before long his pieces of work are profiled in media such as magazine Dj1 or charts the likes of Rolando (UR - Detroit, USA), Subspace (Axis - Mirage, FR), Gayle San (Equator - Singapur), Ben Sims (Hardgroove - UK), Oscar Mulero (WarmUp - ES), Ben Klock (Berghain - Berlin, DE), Pacou (Tresor - Berlin, DE), Tommy Four Seven (CLR - DE) Truncate ( Droid USA ) Go Hiyama ( Straboscopic Artefacts - JP ) o Jerome Sydenham (Ibadan Rec. - SWE).

A consequence of this increased media presence, increases Joton visits abroad, playing in the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Ireland, Italy, UK ... so far. The turn of the decade - 2010 - imposes itself undisputed acceptance of digital format as a basis for any dj session: resistance to change that the heart and the love of vinyl suggest, can not, in practice, fight against the evidence of a market that punishes the purist with a decreasing publication of new releases in the traditional format, vinyl ...But Joton makes this circumstance a chance and with Xone4D discovers new possibilities that are a new boost to his ability to connect with the track that sounds under his rhythm.

A whisper in a dream, a fragmented reality, Murphy’s augmented journey through an ambrosian Post-Apocalyptia. The start alludes to Archaic 90’s modernist Manhattan apartment buildings, found within the quiet ruins of Mankind's Demise. The camera pans out into a quietude of thick green muck, moist with mutated amphibious life. This biological atrocity is rich with a concoction of unworldly micro-organisms. The scene wants to stay as is, yet such ideas of unchanging and immortal perfection are poked along with the tenderness of a mischievous and irritating little sister. The poking and prodding slowly forms into levitating, ascension out of the body and into the horror of eclipsing the astral plane for the first time - an absolutely new epistemological experience. We look down and our planet is nothing more than a reminder of humanity being the perfect imperfect (sic.) biological specimen.

If a murderer describes the feeling of killing as beautiful and second-to-none, what Murphy does is show that violent pleasure, that frightful glassy stare of the life evaporating out of someone, lost and very alone, is shocking and exciting at the same time. But of this awful dissonance is the ultimate duality of life itself - suffering is the bedrock of pleasure. The thunderous ear-piercing kick drums, which alternate like the cyclic movements of a storm, march on mercilessly into this quantised, post-apocalyptic paradigm.

Mr McKay is back on Drumcode with an EP that is very close to home, titled ‘Glasgow Safari’. Harvey has blended his synonymous synth stabs and vocal hooks together and has created another outstanding EP. The drums are fat and chunky as always and allow Harvey’s ideas to flow effortlessly over a solid foundation. The smooth use of dynamic throughout Harvey’s tracks also create impressive drops to add to another exceptional EP from Harvey.

Cotton Claw - TIME TRIAL

Somehow we are already at number ten in our podcast series. This one is yet another special offering and it comes from Ø [Phase], aka Ashley Burchett. Burchett is a UK techno legend who has been doing his do for the past fifteen years. He has released most of his work on the Token label and it includes immersive full lengths such as Frames of Reference as well as tens of hugely consistent and always excellent EPs that go far beyond simple floor fodder. Atmosphere and tension, hypnotism and efficient sonic economy all characterise his singular output. 

Clocking in at just under 75 minutes, this one is for the heads: it starts off in supple, subliminal techno territory with distant drones and rubbery synths working you into a hypnotic state and then gradually unfolds through many different textures. Always rooted to a seductive and repetitive kick, this is a masterclass in control and restraint, in tension and balance, and it will keep you locked for the thrilling duration as a result.
