My good friend Lushbunny surprised me and flew up to LA for my birthday. So he and I played this daytime energetic set to celebrate my 39th birthday at Mars Bar in San Francisco.  It's full of vocal old school house and disco tracks, greatly influenced by all the new tracks I discovered on my recent trip to the Defected Croatia festival back in August of this year!

Happy Hour Is Whenever You're Happy

This week's RIPEcast is from Space Cowboy's own DJ Deckard. Here's what he has to say for himself:

"Breakfast of Champions is consistently my favorite party of the year both to DJ and attend. I opened the outdoor main stage at 9am this year and for all intents and purposes got to play the sunrise set I had been desiring to play but never got the chance at Burning Man earlier in the year. I took it as an opportunity and honor to be able to set the tone for the morning and get the party off on the right foot. I loved getting to play more of a house oriented set with vocals and a block party feel towards the end of the set. I had a blast playing and hope it shows through in the set."

Bio:
Deckard began DJing in Seattle in 2000 and soon began playing gigs up and down the west coast. Upon moving to San Francisco in 2005 he fell in love with the electronic music scene which is so unique to the Bay Area. You can find him spinning at San Francisco institutions such as Mighty, Shine, Supper Club, Wish and the End Up. Deckard capped off a successful 2009 by joining up with the Space Cowboys Burning Man camp. Depending on the crowd, venue and time of day you might find him spinning downtempo lounge, funky big beat, tech house, electro or breaks.

What’s not to love about Monkey Safari? The duo from Halle, Germany have been favorites of ours for as long as we can remember. In terms of Desert Hearts lore, their song Hi Life was the song that played when we celebrated our first Sunday Sunrise 2.5 years ago. It’s been an anthem at our parties ever since and every time it’s played we’re transported back to that glorious morning in the Mojave. To have Monkey Safari finally play our party was like a dream come true for us and they delivered on a monumental scale. The Sunday love vibes at our Spring Festival ‘15 couldn’t have been better as they crushed their 4pm time slot between Justin Jay and Rodriguez Jr. The party and vibe couldn’t have been better as the Desert Hearts Community surprised Sven and Lars with 100+ monkey and banana suits for the occasion. The lushpods have become a sort of sonic diary for me over the years.  The past two weeks I have experienced the loss of two amazing people in my lives.  Two lives that were influential in my development as a DJ.  Inspired by the Elliott Smith track, I wanted to honor both of these beings in a 3 hour audio meditation.  Thank you Erin and Nicholas.

Carefully curated to be released for the RIPEcast, "Gift" is a collection of songs that have been gifted to me in various ways throughout my career.  I am excited to gift this set to the Space Cowboys and RIPEcast, and I am looking forward to joining them behind the decks at the 2017 Breakfast of Champions New Year's Day party in San Francisco.

As the quarantine due to covid 19 enters it's third week, this Facebook livestream set was recorded in celebration of two amazing people, Tony and David.  We were supposed to have a proper party in San Francisco, but instead we got put on our best outfits for a zoom party.
