This work was composed for MechBass, a robotic bass guitar, and Pyramider, a water cooled tesla coil that pumps out musical two meter arcs of electricity.

This recording is from the premier live performance, at the "Forks in Sockets" concert, September 20th, 2013, in Wellington, New Zealand.

Change ringing is a musical and mathematical art performed on bells hung in towers so they swing under control of ropes. Like Pyramider, the bells are large, round, metal, and notably loud with no volume control. It takes a team that’s part musician, engineer, and mathematician to play either instrument.

Generally, the aim in change ringing is to play every possible permutation of a set of bells according to some method. In this work, the raw melodic materials are solely complete sequences for sets of 5 or fewer bells using the method known as “Plain Changes”.

This is Mark's fourth work based on change ringing. It premiered at "Forks in Sockets" in Wellington, NZ. The prior three were written 30 years ago and premiered at Stanford and Harvard. The source code to this work is available on GitHub: github.com/mzero/PlainChanges2

oscillators are cross-modulating. top osc > bifold buchla circuit > optomix > feedback 1bit multi delay. taps at 3 and 7. taps mixed, dry set to 0. tap 1 mix sent to d0 for additional delay. 1bit delay mix out to spectral processor left, d0 to right. slowly raising the SP's width knob to get a lowpass-y effect of just the d0 out. then bringing in buchlatop taps. playing w/ bifold fold amount and other parameters.

Moonlight Interference

Test of Bionic Lester Mark III prototype (dual 12db/oct multimode digital filter with voltage controlled preset manager). Input signal is Piston Honda mark III in unison with LFO modulation of wavetable position.  Only one filter section is used. The input overdrive, resonance, and output mode mixing (continuous from LP -> BP -> HP -> notch -> allpass) are modulated manually. The cutoff frequency is modulated by a velocity-sensitive ADSR envelope from the Andore Jr. prototype sequenced by a Stillson Hammer mark II.

Bionic Lester mark III prototype test

This is a demo of the La67 123 and 112a, with a bunch of other La67 100 clones. Patch as shown in picture.

Demonstration of the new allpass and comb filter modes of Bionic Lester. The patch is simple. One Hertz Donut 3 is patched into both inputs of Lester(routed in parallel) and its fold/mod controls are sometimes turned. The Lester outputs are panned hard left and right. First, allpass phasing with added dry signal is demonstrated.  Then, positive comb feedback with varying delay line lengths, resting frequently to let the feedback develop. Last, negative comb feedback and more tweaking. No other effects (or Lester overdrive)were used. There is occasional LFO modulation of delay line length.
