Taking the tune in a great new direction - good work :)

Axel Boman broke through in 2010 with his Holy Love EP, released on DJ Koze's Pampa Records. The track Purple Drank became an instant classic in underground house music circles – since then, Boman has toured extensively while releasing original productions and remixes on labels like DFA, Hypercolour, Kompakt, Permanent Vacation and Ovum, as well as on Studio Barnhus, the label he runs together with Kornél Kovács and Petter Nordkvist.

Family Vacation, Boman's debut album, arrives on Studio Barnhus in November 2013.

“I decided to go through the vast collection of ideas and sketches I had on my computer, as a final project before I set that machine on fire and let it all go up in flames. Kind of like what Lee "Scratch" Perry did with The Black Ark in Kingston in the 70's. A friend says the album sounds like “weird Jamaican space disco" so maybe it's a fitting reference”, says Boman himself.

Axel Boman's music has also been described as "raw and playful house music drenched in oceans of soul". He graduated with a master's degree from Valand School of Fine Arts in 2010 and currently lives in the calm and peaceful Stockholm suburb Gröndal.

To celebrate Record Store Day 2016, Claremont 56 is proud to present something rather special - a killer single-sided release whose origins are shrouded in mystery.

“Tropic Of Capricorn” arrived at C56 HQ with little or no information. While its’ humid sound effects and glistening, unfurling melodies evoke hazy memories of Mediterranean sunsets and Adriatic sunrises, the track’s creators live East of Ukraine, in the colder surrounds of the Russia.

Regardless of who made it, you’ll struggle to find a single that’s quite as warm, tactile and seductively groovy. Built around a hypnotic, slo-mo groove, “Tropic of Capricorn” soothes and sedates from start to finish. Its’ ingredients are relatively sparse – think gently undulating beats, toasty chords and an electric harp that gently ebb and flow like the waters of a mountain stream – but the results are nothing less than stunning.

The eighth release from the Dama Dama imprint, ‘Dad’s Old Tapes’, is another offering from the elusive band North Downs. following on from the bands well-received single - ‘Plastic Clouds’. 

North Downs was born in a run-down barn in the wintery English countryside, the lovechild of a Delta-Blues man and a London raver marrying the sounds of the organic and the synthetic. There’s a wonderful clarity in this unique fusion. It’s genre-blended, but each ingredient works independently, fixating you on the journey. 

The first single from the new EP, which carries the same title, was created with samples collected from old cassette tapes, which contained live recordings of the bandleader’s Dad, taken from a local gig many years ago. 

The collaborative nature of how this music is produced is paramount. On this EP alone, those with more discerning ears may pick up elements of fellow artists such as Khruangbin, Jake Bright, Dan Chappell, Andreya Triana and of course Maribou State – creating a melting pot of talent with North Downs at the helm.

@sonar-kollektiv have just re-released @jazzanova's classic album from 2008 "Of All The Things". To celebrate they asked brand new family member @iamfeiertag to remix one of the key tracks from the album Little Bird ahead of the release of his own single "Black Diamonds & Pearls" on Nov 15th. 

Feiertag has completely flipped the track and he result is an instant classic, Deep brooding and moody it's an electronic masterpiece from the broken beats and filtered drums through the deep and powerful bass synths. There are few artists making seriously great music while not taking themselves too seriously; that difficult feat is one rarely attempted and even less often successfully carried out. Benoit & Sergio have seemingly effortlessly managed to pull off that contradictory trick, producing songs that sometimes seem like musical open letters: editorials narrated in the voices of unidentified, yet totally recognizable colorful characters, read aloud against a backdrop of beautifully lush, warm and sensuous electronic pop music. The unexpected juxtaposition of such pristine production and playful lyricism -- first exhibited on 2009's highly praised <i>What I've Lost</i> EP, which included the brilliantly sardonic single "Full Grown Man"  -- exemplifies why Benoit & Sergio are one of the most unique and interesting outfits in dance music. It's good news, then, that the Washington, D.C./Berlin-based outfit's eagerly expected DFA debut maintains both the charm and expert craftsmanship of its predecessors. 

Single "Boy Trouble" (the titular counterpoint to "Full Grown Man") launches the EP with all manner of reasons to take to the dancefloor: An exigent beat, a beckoning synthline, a bassline of understated funk. Sergio lethargically sings about girls, making note of both their ups and the downsides, without the hindrance of subtlety. "I love girls/With legs like a Ferrari" he states before noting (bemoaning?) the fact that "You need poetry to turn these girls on." It's a song for the best part of the night, full of compulsive rhythms and a climax that builds on sparkly synths. The accompanying remix from Visionquest -- the Detroit-bred, Berlin-based label led by producers Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves -- amps things up, making the beat a more prominent, driving and club banging force. The flipside features "Full Grown Man" and "What I've Lost," which reveal themselves to be worth more than a few revisits. 

Benoit and Sergio Giorgini -- originally from Paris and Chicago, respectively -- have previously released music on producer Bruno Pronsato's thesongsays label and Ghostly International's Spectral Sound. Sergio also makes music as one half of both Birds & Souls and NDF.
