Including 13 tracks carefully selected by Brescia based, Rebirth label boss Shield, with the Art direction of Stupefacente studio, ranging from the formerly unreleased, rare as F, and very, very expensive records (ranging from £20 to £200 per copy) all beautifully presented in this retro styled 1990 world cup sleeve along with a 20 page booklet with a background story to this influential sound. Following a prosperous career in music and poetry, Detroit-based musician and performer Malik Alston readies his vibrant album ‘Malik Alston Presents Painted Pictures: Air’ set for release via The Jazz Diaries. The album is a spirited celebration between jazz virtuosity and Motor City house music, showcasing Alston’s roots in Jazz, Gospel, Soul and Dance Music. 

Alston’s story is one that is intrinsically aligned with the story of Detroit itself. Having hosted one of the first Slum Village concerts, and teaching vocal lessons to many members of the Detroit music community. His production and writing collaborations read like a who’s who of Detroit artists including Alton Miller, Amp Fiddler, Roy Davis Jr. & Javonntte and releases on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music to name a few.

“‘When I think of ‘Air’... for me, it exists to express a combination of freedom, self awareness, and doing something different and new. In ‘Air’ you get to really hear the band as a whole, no one stands out individually. It was all a matter of showing that we brought the music to life together as a unit. ‘Air’ is definitely a true reflection of what Painted Pictures was: free musicians who play good music.”

Lorenz Rhode, the synth aficionado (and sound designer for legendary manufacturer Sequential) presents a tread into a deeper territory for his productions. ‘Le Noir EP’ sets out three adventurous synthesizer explorations from the German national, bringing archetypal proto-disco sounds inspired by everything from Giorgio Moroder to French-touch. Sounds that would be just as well suited to the dancefloors of New York’s the Loft, as they would be in our favourite clubs today.

Title track ‘Le Noir’ sets off with heavy phasing moog-like arpeggios that wind and tangle us towards a percussion-laden back drop and super-tight drum machine groove. Ominous French female vocals layer the top between interjections of organ chords that transition between the subtle key changes throughout the track.

‘Yayoi’ brings equal parts synthesizer mixed with a heavy measure of chugging drum machine grooves. Acidic basslines and reverberating clap rhythms pave the way for sustained chords and mind-altering sound design. A real keyboard workout throughout, and a true indication of Rhode’s unmatched abilities on the instrument.

‘Pan di Stelle’ follows with a truly Moroder inspired bassline that growls and climbs as it arpeggiates through its uplifting harmonic progression. Metamorphic moments as tones combine, with drum fills that will shake the room. A stellar closing track to a 3-track EP boiling over with exuberant ideas and sleek instrumentation.

‘Le Noir’ is exemplary of a forward-thinking progression in the disco-house genre, Rhode is pushing the boundaries throughout this EP with style.

One of the artists who shone through the recent Covid lockdowns were Glasgow's @shakalovesyou with their regular quality filled streams and easy going banter keeping us all enthused and in good spirits here at Le Visiteur. They have backed this up with a series of great releases via the excellent Bombstrikes label with singles Hangin' Out and Get Down galvanising their support following their Joints & Jams compilation. 

Now they are back with a crackin' feel-good disco edged EP Just a Little Time via @bombstrikes.

When a brand new @Outplay release lands in our digital mailbox we drop everything and get it straight on the LV office sound system. When it's by one of the label co-bosses @junktionmusic we know that we are in for a treat. We've been fans of his since way back before the current iteration of Le VIsiteur Online existed. Safe to say that he lived up to the office hype as we dropped the needle on this package.

Moving away from his traditional cool as you like house and deep house vibes he has delivered up a scorcher of a disco edged house EP in the shape of Tributes. Our premier today is the funky as hell 'I Got Somebody'. It's a groover for sure, with acid licks, subtle keys and some very classy vocal samples providing plenty of dancefloor verve. Dimitri from Paris (@dfp) and @dj-rocca have a strong history together collaborating on a number of excellent releases over the years including dancefloor gems 'Disco Shake' and 'Ero Disco Theme'. It's always a pleasure to have this disco dream team back and here they have delivered another stone cold future classic in the shape of 'The Compass Point'. It's one of five brand new tracks to feature on '12 Compost Disco Years Volume 1' which lands via digital on the 3rd December with the vinyl following on April 2022 via @compost disco.

The compilation is packed with 9 classy tracks straddling the disco universe from the likes of Manuel Tur, DJ Pippi & Willie Graff and AN-2.

Much respected DJ and producer Milton Jackson has been making music for a double decade. Easily one of the most admired producers of the UK Deep house scene it’s a pleasure to have him back quick smart and in sterling form following his recent killer EP with with Shur-I-Kan.

Dropping on the 3rd December his ‘House Arrest EP’ on London’s Freerange Records features five tracks of very classy deep house and electronica.

Deep, warm and emotive electro from Maltese producer and multi-instrumentalist Melchior Sultana. "Mirage" is the second single taken from Melchior's forthcoming album 'Self Reflection', for the Oath imprint. 

Starting right out of the blocks, Melchior's signature warm chords sit comfortably atop an intricate rhythmic display, and as time passes Sultana introduces some beautiful layers into the mix. A razor sharp acid line counteracts the delicate pads, as a rhythmically intriguing bass sequence pounds along underneath. The track then drifts into its first breakdown, as everything moves underwater to provide the key solo which shines through some space to breath, and like that we climb back up the hill to see the sun rise. 

Everything blends into the background ever so slightly, as further solo elements find their way into the mix to keep things very engaging indeed. An enormity is packed into this little 3 minute experience, and that is the exact reason you will be coming back to it, time and time again.
