NYC leftfield disco darlings Phenomenal Handclap Band made their first appearance on RNT by way of a collab with JKriv in 2022, and now they return for an offering all their own, the Burning Bridges EP. The title track juxtaposes riffy guitar driven funk with plaintive vocals that smack of 1970s Heart in the best way, and Prins Thomas turns the tempo knob up a few clicks and launches into an extended interstellar  excursion with his remix. On the B side the cinematic slow burner ‘It Was The Summer’ begins sparse and hazy and builds to driving peak of backbeat rhythm and an insistent vocal soliloquy. Each Other (Justin Strauss & Max Pask) then take the tune straight the rave with arpeggiated and acidic synths, recasting the haunting vocals as a modern New Wave anthem.

The Way You Do It takes an ever so Soulful sample and gives it huge licks of loopy disco and kick ass jackin' beats for what is a bit of a club masterpiece. Expect all sorts of shapes on dancefloor's across the globe when this one lands.

Mind your business is equally packed with the funky stuff with a cool spoken vocal sits atop acid edged hammond licks and some seriously fierce drum programming. Looped to perfection it's another bomb.

@axnermusic are Julia Axnér & Chris Davies (Disco Freaks / Acid Jazz Records) and our keen readers will have caught their excellent debut single Got The Look which we premiered last year with a rather splendid Al Kent remix. It was a seriously classy debut which garnered support from none other than Craig Charles and a multitude of DJ's across the globe.

They are now back with their Sophomore single and this time they have really upped the ante with Shout From The Rooftop. This one has been a real international affair. Having begun with sessions with the insanely talented Ralph Rolle, the drummer of Nile Rodgers & Chic, it was recorded in various studios around the globe including in Malmo, London and York with Rah Harrison, who even called in Beyoncé’s producer to add his magic touch to the mix. Also featuring multi-layered backing vocals courtesy of Audrey Martells (Chic/The Shapeshifters)Shout From The Rooftop is a delicious example of just how vivacious and infectious modern disco can be keeping faithful to the building blocks of the genre but with a golden 2023 production pizazz.

@pbrstreetgang are celebrating their 20th Anniversary with the release of a superb compilation of their work from across their career.
