If I was going to pick a top 5 house labels that have influenced the Le Visiteur sound @localtalk would be on that list every single time. Based in Stockholm Local Talk is collaboration between Mad Mats and Tooli their next release sees label luminary Opolopo go to work on some of the finest moments from the labels back catalogue and it's a pretty incredible album.

To celebrate the release of the album we have a full label interview incoming early next week. In the meantime @Tooli has put together a rather scintillating mix featuring some of his favourite moment from the label's catalogue. Early June this year I was invited to play at Kapela's "Soulful Sunday" afternoon jams in Djoon, Paris. And all sets in this infamous club happen to be recorded.
A big chunk of it (which featured a great back-to-back session with Kapela) has already been broadcasted on YouTube, but I remember somewhere else in the afternoon, where the good guy let me fly solo for a bit, and I delved out some choice Deep House gems, subsequently ending up to be one of my favorite sets I did the past time.

So what better than to drop that mix on the day Soulful Sunday heads into the new season?  All of 46 minutes with some current faves and a few from yesteryears, and don't get it twisted: you might've seen me blow up a dancefloor last week, but properly warming up such a floor is a skill too, which tends to get severely overlooked in these times of one-hour-slots with only bangers the DJ's after you will play too. 

It just needs to be said sometimes.

“Rough Or Smooth” offers an emotive body of electronic songs. A taste for deep, electronic house music and a passion for traveling for over 30 years set Abel’s table with a full plate of inspiration enabling him to dive deeper into his music production.

The album features few with Abel standing strong as the main sound provider. Inviting old friend and former studio partner ‘Craig James’ to participate and subsequently ‘Marcel Nouveaux’, a soul vocal artist from West London now residing in Sweden. This album also sees a wonderful cameo appearance from his 7 year old son ‘Elliott’ who is showing a great interest in the creation of electronic music. ‘Atjazz’ features throughout the album in differing roles, key to guiding Abel through his process and assisting with additional keyboards and production.

Being the Son of a Jazz musician it’s really no wonder his music carries depth, emotion and style yet he incorporates his love of the moody ‘Deep House Sound’ circa 1998, very warm and rather gritty!. An early drifter and never finding complete comfort sitting still or settling in one place for too long, he found peace in moving continuously through Europe in his early adult life, mainly travelling around France, Austria and Holland. Years later, a chance meeting in Croatia connected Abel with Atjazz, they linked up and worked out two singles. These releases were suspended pending an album in the making and... “Rough Or Smooth” was born!

This is a true journeyman’s Deep House album, generating evocative and stimulating sounds for both the clubber and the specialist looking for a little more depth in their House Music collection.

🗣️ Comment as tu découvert la musique électronique ? Et depuis combien de temps mixes tu ? 
- J’ai découvert la house music par le biais de la Hip-House, les remix qu’il y avait sur les faces B des disques Hip Hop en 1989 comme ceux de Jungle Brothers et bien d’autres de la Native Tongue...Mantronix aussi , Precious. Mais clairement à cette époque je considerai tout ça comme du hip-hop. Puis après avec plus de précisions en voyant les danseurs dans les 1ers titres les plus connus comme Crystal waters / Robin S / Ruffneck...
Radio Nova a vraiment jouée dans mon éducation au rap Américain et Français , avec mes grands frères on enregistrait toutes les émissions. C’est comme ça que j’en suis venu à découvrir l'émission de Dj Deep en 1995-96. Cela était une base fondamentale pour moi en terme de direction, la sélection était différente des autres émissions que l’on pouvait entendre ailleurs.
- Je mixe réellement depuis 1998, mon frère était DJ, j’ai appris en le regardant.

🗣️ Quel est ton meilleur souvenir dans musique électronique ? 
- Mon meilleur souvenir est aux soirées Shelter en 1998 à New York, Timmy Regisford aux platines. Tout le monde chante et danse, le son est puissant et de qualité, les lumières... L’ambiance était ruff les gens savaient pourquoi ils étaient la, bref la culture à sa source.

🗣️ Quelle est ta plus grande inspiration ? 
- Je n’ai pas une plus grande inspiration, mais des inspirations quand je vois des DJ de Talents ou des références comme : Joe Claussel, Timmy Regisford, Theo Parrish et bien d'autres qui te font voyager sans que tu le sentes dans différents univers et te refont découvrir des classiques d'une autre manière

🗣️ Et enfin ton morceau du moment ? 
- Ahhh je n’ai pas de morceau du moment mais des morceaux...Bon j’en choisi un, un peu de douceur :
