'SEX FOR MONEY': An Authentic DIY Snapshot into the Past, Present, and Future of Global Pop-Electronic, Goth-Punk-Alternative Cultures, and Beyond.

The head-turning name with the sound and depth to back it up; after a three year effort, the fourteen track collaborative voyage between Levitation Jones and Lemondoza cultivates into a self-titled album from their debut duo, “SEX FOR MONEY”. The first thing that can be noted about this release is the attention to detail while remaining rooted and confident in its punk attitude and minimalism, not relying on cheap gimmicks. Still a more defining and complete presentation, a bigger production ready for the bright lights, and an exotic but lively dancefloor experience in comparison to either of their solo projects, the grassroots hype and constant whispers on the underground have already brewed a lot of momentum for the pair.
Levitation Jones is, as ever, brash, a little abrasive, and—let’s be honest—delightfully annoying. But that’s exactly what makes him magnetic. A regular innovator while never getting caught in the rat-race, his big-picture mindset has often been executed tastefully but has never been about smoothing edges; it’s about turning those jagged bits into something raw and arresting. Love him or roll your eyes at him, he’s the kind of artist and entertainer who makes you feel something.
Lemondoza, on the other hand, is the concrete—a genuine musician and designer with an unshakable sense of self and a gift for translating the abstract into something that lands in your chest whether it is delivered via her voice, live instruments, her digital production, or on the visual end of her art. Not afraid to manipulate her product with an overload of effects or let the raw power breathe, the Eastern-European understands the task at hand every time. Her talent doesn’t need to announce itself; it hums through every note and grasps every eyeball, grounding the project in a soulful sincerity.

Filling out the back half of things on the album is a plethora of covers, remixes, and VIPs from the duo and special guests of the underground. A true delight whether you are familiar with the acts or discovering them for the first time.
Together, they’ve given us more than just a record. “SEX FOR MONEY” feels like a peek behind the curtain to authenticity in a world that is oversaturated with underwhelming, over-produced, and over-budgeted works. A truthful look at two established creative forces from significantly different backgrounds colliding and finding harmony. It’s messy, intimate, and legitimately beautiful—a treat for anyone who cares about what happens when the process itself becomes part of the art. The duo isn’t just playing with pop and bass music tropes; they’re setting them loose in dark corners of club and festival culture and it’s clear they were not afraid of judgement, instead favoring the right musical choices between their personal tastes and tapping into their personal experiences. The result? Fourteen tracks that aren't shy in any way, ranging between brutal honesty, tongue-in-cheek self-awareness, and oddly affecting vulnerability.

Friday night of the festival about to pop off, people's camp sites are locked in, and they are making their way to the stage. It's cloudy and chilly, but a beautiful sunset reveals itself. Evolutions lets me know the next act is late and asks me to hold the slot down for extra time. I've got the massive Tiaga Sound rig, visuals and lighting by V.Kash and Alex Dawn, with the whole 4Life Ent. LED wall looking ridiculous. We're going for a ride.

(Although not included in the 1.5hr recording, @delagriiim performed some vocals and I tagged with @apothecarydubs and @trippywitch for 30mins to close out the 2hr slot. Check them out!)

Track Five: “Lana Del Rey” — A Moody, Ambiguous, Subtly Captivating Meeting of 90’s Rave Music and Post-Rock in the Bass World

“Lana Del Rey” is the album’s curveball—which isn’t about Lana so much as it feels like her—moody, ambiguous, subtly captivating. An abstract dancefloor love song that never fully says what it means, but you feel it anyway. It’s perhaps about longing, missing someone so much the moment turns from idea into forced reality. The lyricism stays elusive, which makes it hit harder—because sometimes the feelings you can’t name are the ones that stick.

Musically, it’s a rare gem. The basslines unfold in three distinct sections, each one a subtle reinvention of the last—truly chef’s kiss stuff for anyone paying attention. And right in the middle comes an unexpected post-rock breakdown, stretching the track beyond its bass roots and hinting at something deeper in their sonic DNA.

There are shades of darkwave and coldwave woven through, but it’s still kinetic—music you can jump around to and be sad to, like a blurry midpoint between the former, modern DIY pop, and 90’s rave music. “Lana Del Rey” shows that bass music doesn’t have to be formulaic; it can brood, it can expand, and it can still move you—literally and emotionally.

Track Three: “Wonder Girl” — A Bubblegum Apocalypse You Can Dance To

“Wonder Girl” is bubblegum pop, sure, but not the lazy kind you can dismiss. This is bouncy, hyper-saturated, anime-opening-theme-core—an E-girl dance anthem disguised as a candy-colored sugar rush. It sounds like pixelated hearts exploding in midair, which is to say: it absolutely slaps if you aren’t afraid of the color pink.

Lyrically, it’s deceptively sharp. It’s about a guy who just doesn’t get it—she’s toxic, predatory even, and if he lets her, she’ll keep feeding on his naivety. It’s fun until you realize how sinister it is, which makes it even more fun. There’s that undeniable European pop influence from Lemonoza’s world, but spliced with punk sneer, hyperpop chaos, drum & bass energy, and even some halftime breakdowns that crash in like unexpected mood (hip) swings.

The result? A track that shouldn’t work—but does. It’s ridiculous in all the right ways, stitched together with such intention that the absurdity becomes part of its brilliance. “Wonder Girl” isn’t just a song; it’s a glitter-coated trap you’ll happily fall into again and again.

This past spring, I went on a massive 40 city tour with a giant sound system, an RV, dope support artists, and a whole team of people. We wanted to change the standard for sound and talent at bass music shows.

I think we managed to accomplish our goal. But, as fun as it was, it totally destroyed me mentally.

This set was the final stop on my 2 months basically away from home. I don't necessarily think it's my best work, but I left a piece of my heart in it, giving it my all on an extremely stress filled time of my life. Hopefully that means something to you all.

A massive thrust of ignition overcomes our entire bodies. Panicking to strap on our seat belts, latch our helmets, and brace ourselves, we barrel into the darks. Breaking into uncharted atmospheres we're smacked with pressure, consumed by velocity, glued to the backs of our seats.  "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" Jones leaves us but a moment to take a breath before locking on and catapulting this vessel as far and as distant as exists. Peaking maximum velocity all of a sudden we run out of fuel (purposefully?) and drift through the nothing until we run out of air. "

'One day I took my friend Brian, @levitationjones, to the black & white planet. We went for a walk exploring the planet and catching up. At one point Brian said, “do you ever feel like you aren’t in control of yourself? Like there’s an outside force that controls our actions that we can’t see or do anything about?” Suddenly, a force appeared around us, it was controlling us similar to a puppeteer. It seemed to be powered by this green energy. I realized Brian was on to something; we are always being guided by the green life force. The universe always wants the path of least resistance, so we shouldn’t fight the flow. We just have to enjoy the ride and let ourselves be suspended in space time...' - G-Space

Middle of nowhere, Colorado: It's 2am, 25 degrees F, but we've got the largest collection of Hennessey Sound Design subwoofers to date.

This one was approached a bit differently, I knew we had some serious sub power. I wanted to make sure eyeballs were rattling, so get yourself some nice headphones or speakers. There are a few repeats of tracks that you may recognize from my previous sets online, but I personally had to hear certain tunes on this sound system! Not sure that people will love this one, and there were lots of standout sets over the weekend, but I'm really proud of this one in terms of pure low end technique, so here ya go. T'was a really awesome festival run by awesome people, I wanted to remember it. :)

A classic lyric turned into a modern-day dark anthem, Jones takes a stab at the bandwagon of hippie culture and bass music. "The title track of the release, 'Optical Sliding' doesn't give you much time to breathe. Quickly, the sounds tease your ears as the drums pick up, then, we see an absolute skanker take place. Constantly creating switch ups in the mix, we hear Jones still maintaining the minimalism and mood throughout. An evil chuckle visits in increments on the song, making sure you are paying attention in those awkward spaces. It should be added that 'Optical Sliding' is a 2 drop showcase, with many variations of the sub bass, and is well-worth the full listen."

Extremely thankful for and impressed with Okeechobee's respect for the underground bass scene. It was a prominent feature during the entire weekend to both established ears and fresh ones as well. This one crawls to a start (had to clear out the bros)in the best way, but turns into wonk-city. Vibe with the 120 and 140. Enjoy the new originals. Dance with your hips, not your head.
