Romie Coston

Hailing straight out of Compton California, Romie Coston will capture the attention and support of music lovers with his engaging word play and ability to portray vivid visuals to his listeners is undeniable.  He's not a rapper, however he's destined to become your favorite rappers favorite R&B artist and like L.L. ladies will love Romie as well.

Always around music growing up, he attributes his songwriting skills to writing down raps word for word in elementary.  Before his teens, Romie could relate to the depictions of street life detailed in Straight Out of Compton by NWA, because it was his existence as well.  Exposed to tales of gang violence and mayhem in raps, yet greeted with the soothing sounds of R&B from his mother's vast record collection, he had the best of both worlds. "The music would speak to me," he recalls from his childhood and those conversations still exist for the talented lyricist.

 In an attempt to shield her children from a turbulent inner city upbringing and the harsh reality of the streets, Romie's mother relocated south to Houston, TX when he was twelve.  This was an upgrade from his quality of life in Compton and it is also where he discovered his voice.  He also bonded with his relative Reggie Barron, with whom he shares ownership in his Entertainment company, Romie Coston Enterprises.  Back then, his rendition of New Edition's "Can You Stand the Rain" caught the attention of his peers.  His gift of song was used more as a tool to impress the middle school age girls and less of an ambition he would pursue.  He wasn't fond of southern living, but now he realizes how his short stay in Houston would impact his future.

Adamant about getting back to California , by the age of 15 he was nestled in beautiful sunny San Diego living with his older brother.  San Diego, with areas just like Compton was fast living, but Romie's uncanny ability to be "in the streets" but not "of the streets" kept him out of harms way.  "I avoid conflict and confrontation and I don't play in the streets," is his response to dodging the lure of gang affiliation.  Ultimately, singing became an outlet for the talented vocalist.  He aspires to utilize his gift to speak to the youth just as music enveloped him in his early years.

Many male R&B artists fail to find the middle ground necessary to appeal to the masses.  Romie Coston is that exception that comes along every now and then. Conceptually sound, creative, well thought out tales of love, frustrations and life round out his upcoming project.

The generation gap that exists in music will close considerably with Romie Coston on deck.  The youth will recognize and respect his swagger, while mature music lovers will turn him on and turn back the hands of time as they remember how Marvin, Al, Stevie and Sam Cook sang from their heart and soul.  The industry will embrace Romie because he is undeniably a breath of fresh air.
