Villanova are a Marseille duo brought together over a love of analogue synths who have been making deep and moving music on labels like Denote since 2012. Now the tireless label that is Canada’s My Favorite Robot have enlisted the pair for their second EP, after their recent MFR, that comes complete with remixes from Kiki and HearThug. Opener ‘Physique Bell’ is just the sort of taught and tensile track that fits perfectly with the label’s aesthetic. Squirming metal synths writhe about between slowly slapping drums and rubbery basslines as indecipherable voices add an alien presence up top. It’s bulky and beefy yet works its way under your skin with a mechanic charm. The next original is ‘Exception’ a heads-down, dead of night groove built from thick vamping basslines, shadowy voices and plenty of tension inducing rushes of white noise. Its sounds like the robots have fully taken over in the second half as moaning and groaning sounds trap you right in their midst. Finnish BPitch Control talent KiKi gets to work on the remix and decides to strip it back, make the groove more direct but elastic and layers in plenty of spine and nerve tingling synths, bringing with them an eerie atmosphere. Finally, ‘One Night’ is another robotic and otherworldly brew of breathing monsters, writhing synths and gallivanting kick drums that tie the whole ting to the dancefloor. Tunisian Jihed Monser aka HearThuG then turns in a remix that is on a devilish disco tip with frazzled, searching synths scanning the soundscape and a rock-ist psychedelia permeating the whole thing. It’s a darkened track perfect for intimate back rooms or basements and closes out a fine EP overall.

Nils Frahm is one of the best artists out there in my opinion, with pretty much the best live show I've ever seen. But aside from all that, this was just a really enjoyable remix to work on because the original is such a great piece of music, and seemingly so well suited to what I wanted to do with it - which was to try and turn Nils' instrumental jam on his Juno, into something house/techno/club/44 compatible, but still carrying the class and feeling of the original. It was one of those remixes that just seemed to fit and flow easily, with minimum strain and maximum enjoyment on my part - usually a good sign for a remix (the one's that have to be forced never seem to quite get there).

The start of the new millennium brought change, innovation and an array of technological developments. New names appeared on the international techno scene like never before, and one of the biggest to emerge over the last decade has undoubtedly been Berlin-based techno duo, Pan-Pot. 

2013 marks Pan-Pot’s illustrious 10 year anniversary, and to celebrate, the pair will visit selected clubs as they embark on the X-tour – a series of 10 shows in Europe and abroad from late October through to December. 

From humble beginnings at Berlin’s SAE institute in 2003, Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix joined forces to present their dark and murky take on techno to the world. 10 years later, the pair has established themselves as one of the mainstays on Berlin label mobilee, with countless releases and a constantly heavy touring schedule. 

Pan-Pot are hard-working, determined and endlessly inventive. Over the past 10 years, the pair have developed into DJ superstars, regularly headlining festivals or filling packed stadiums around the word. More often than not, they are playing sold out shows where their unique stage presence shines through and can be felt by each and every member of the crowd. On top of this, Pan-Pot have created their own distinct sound which is prevalent in their DJ sets and is revered by followers and peers worldwide. 

As well as celebrating their 10 years together, Pan-Pot will hit the road to give something back to the fans that continue to support them. The X-tour will see Pan-Pot playing extended sets at 10 selected gigs, each showcasing the entire spectrum of their music from the beginning of their career until today. Starting in Neuss on October 2nd, the tour will see the pair appear in Tel Aviv, Munich, Barcelona, Istanbul, Milan, Rotterdam, Paris and Hamburg with a final stop in Berlin’s Watergate on December 14th. 

In conjunction with the X-tour, a short video has been produced by video artist Hakan Can. Pan-Pot will also release a new two track EP called “The Mirror”, which will be available on mobilee records from October 18th.

The 17th release on microCastle sees the always on form duo of Monaque with their first EP for the label. This follows a strong run of releases for the Russian pair which included the Jack Rose EP on Renaissance and their remixes of Lank's 'Run On Fumes' and Tonnsaied & Mario Kahn's 'Voided' . The Dos3000 EP contains 2 original tracks; 'Dos3000' and 'Resolutions' which have been receiving heavy play from many of the world's top DJs in recent months with Hernan Cattaneo leading the charge.  Spooky and Quivver who  are two of electronic music's most legendary and storied artists have been called upon to remix the EP. The Dos3000 original mix is driven by a tough techno groove which is complimented by some devastatingly dark electronics and a simple yet extremely effective lead which all makes for a peak time main room bomb. Fresh off his Yeah Yeah EP for Bedrock Quivver reworks Dos3000 into a dark and twisted dancefloor killer. The unmistakeable trademark Quivver groove is certainly evident and the overall heads down vibe and spirit of the original is maintained. Added vocal elements, seriously fresh sounds and a keen dancefloor sensibility make for another outstanding production from Quivver.

On the Resolutions original Monaque have really come up with a timeless classic. This piece has an undeniable positive vibe and great club energy about it. With with one of the most unique and memorable melodic leads of the year  Resolutions is awe inspiring and unquestionably  profound. There are very few artists who can claim to be true pioneers of electronic music; with Spooky however the claim is absolutely legitimate.  Their debut album ‘Gargantuan' on William Orbit's Guerilla Records will forever be regarded as one of the defining albums in the history of modern dance music. That along with remixing Depeche Mode and producing the ‘Involver' projects alongside Sasha;  Duncan Forbes and Charlie May have been at the forefront of electronic music their entire careers. On Resolutions Spooky have delivered a stunning interpretation, the foundation is built on a grinding techy groove that will shred up even the most discerning of dancefloors.  As more elements are added into the mix there is a constant building tension as the droning leads and panning electronics escalate in potency. The end result is nothing short of remarkable and should make for some of the most memorable dancefloor moments of the year. Forthcoming Charlie May productions to lookout for include a collaboration with Barry Jamieson which will be released this summer with remixes from Dimitri Nakov and Sasha. Also on the gig front Spooky and Charlie May will be playing at Glastonbury this year and Spooky will be playing alongside Booka Shade at Space Ibiza for 15 years of DJ Mag Ibiza

Though well respected and accomplished producers in their own right, together Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers and Brian 'Orgue Electronique' Schijf really make the girls go wild. Their Chicago Shags project is one that has released on Creme Organization, Bunker and Strange Life Records, forever mining increasingly exciting house depths since 2005. Now they return with The Family Album on the ever-excellent MOS Recordings.

The four track EP starts with 'Ponderosa'; a forward looking, cosmic surfing house cut wired with plenty of smooth electronics and pure jacking energy, before 'Pancake Breakfast' glistens and glints just as much with its firefly synth lines, gurgling baseline and sweet, pixelated melodies. 

‘Firetruck Sunday’ is more dense and edgy, never resting in one place for more than a single beat, with chattery drums and claps offset by a rounded, smoothed but acidy bassline. Finally, ‘To The Westfield’ surges and soars through more sci-fi universes as a house groove busies itself below. 

Four tracks of heavily analogue house for the most knowing of dancefloors, then, as is always the case with this pair!

Sawlin's debut EP on Delsin off shoot Ann Aimee went down so well it only made sense to have him craft another. 'Eviment' is that EP, made up of three more deep and subterranean techno cuts that play with plenty of textures.

Title track 'Eviment' is a tortured and paranoid offering that has a nagging vocal stretched out over splashy claps and a foreboding bottom end thud. It's vast and dark, spare and haunting where 'Kretze' is a bigger and bolder track. The analogue percussion and serrated lines all sound old and aged as they mark out a scraping, dystopian vision of a world well away from here.

'Sour Tear' has a more syncopated, techno-funk groove but is still padded out with plenty of dubby undercurrents. Sawlin's percussion sounds are wholly non standard, from clanking metal to twanging strings, everything sounds like a real world sound, which makes his music as arresting as anyone's, despite being made firmly for the techno backroom.

Hot on the heels of his recent groundbreaking Fabric 64 compilation, Supplement Facts bossman Guy Gerber is now ready to get "Steady" with a brand new EP and worldwide tour.

Acclaimed photographer Martin Zalba Ibáñez has been tapped to provide a new series of B&W photos for the iconic Supplement Facts covers. The first one can be seen on Gerber's first release on his own Supplement Facts label in almost two years, which sees him pairing with dOP frontman Jaw for 'Steady,' a melodic track filled with soaring synth lines, Guy's emotional bass guitar chords, and Jaw's incredibly performance featuring his trademark eerie, distorted vocals.

Rounding out the release is a beefed up Midland remix of Steady - perfect for peak time dance floor destroying. The vinyl B- side is a re-edit of the Golden Sun & the Silver Moon, a dreamy standout track off of the Fabric compilation (and Guy's alternate name for the Fabric mix itself) featuring vocals by Clarion North of Footprintz (look for their upcoming album on Visionquest soon).
