Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Cutty Sav.  In Love.  Grateful.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. I first performed in NYC in 2005 with my teenage metal band Animosity and many times over the next few years.  I loved the feverish energy of the New York shows and when the band broke up in 2009, I moved to Brooklyn from my hometown San Francisco. I’ve been raving it up here ever since. In my first couple years here I used to DJ using Abelton Live at small clubs like Zebulon and Glasslands and some parties that friends and I would throw around Brooklyn.  After a while I basically lost interest in playing out, but definitely continued to seek new music all the time and just go in deeper on the dancefloor.  I think I was enjoying parties more just as a dancer because it freed up my listening experience from hunting for new tunes or aspiring to control the vibe.  It wasn’t until about a year ago that I ran it back and really got excited about DJing again.  Thanks to some very encouraging friends I’m playing more frequently these days and every time it’s a joyful celebration.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. These are all tracks that I have been playing out recently.  This mix is that single top shelf mushroom that smacks a little too hard.  It's getting kicked out of your beautiful apartment in a horrific rental market.  It's projectile barfing off the platform of a six flags roller coaster and then eating ice cream.  Its fucking at the edge of a massive Icelandic waterfall.  This is an hour of peak time Baby Leo going straight in, making up for all those years I didn’t. It’s Dripping. It’s Groovy. It’s a Low Frequency Wormhole.  It’s all love inside.

Saint-Étienne-born producer and DJ E-Unity curates an hour’s worth of emotional bangers for our latest specialist mix.

Constructed from lamenting vocal samples, mournful club cuts and ambient works from artists such as Fatima Al Qadiri, Burial, Sky H1 and dj lostboi (AKA Malibu), the recording takes on a collage-like structure as it moves through classics and unknown sounds, genres old and new, and all shades of emotions.

Voices of Pathos: Mixed by E-Unity

Sobolik is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work as a producer, DJ, promoter and label curator seeks to open dialogues across cultures and practices of modern club music. Co-heading the UK-based label All Centre alongside Simkin and DJ Pitch, Sobolik has been turning heads with futuristic club cuts on labels such as 3024, CloudCore, Woozy, and early reflex. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy - not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palate of styles across North American and UK club music traditions. Their most recent EP, “Iris”, released on All Centre in late 2021, pulls together molten digital sound design, jacking techno rhythms, and hard-hitting breakbeats across its 4 tracks. Sobolik curates a bimonthly party called inside voices, hosting vanguard minds in the New York underground—including K Wata, Despina, T.Wan, Ovid, Benbo, No Sir, Third Self, and Taal. In February, they released their third EP - Packet Loss - in a debut collaboration with Kindergarten Records, joining modern bass scene luminaries like Ayesha, Sha Ru, and Stolen Velour at Brooklyn’s preeminent home of chaotic, forward-thinking digital percussion tracks.
