My sister, Elle McSharry, and I. Elle is playing our late grandfather's Recording King guitar (after a lot of work to make it playable again), strung and tuned in her unique way. It's slightly to the right in the mix if you're wearing headphones. Recorded and mixed by James Bertis.

The Queen of Northern Lights

Recorded at Khind Of Records, the 11-song concept album chronicles the exploits of Dave Crocker, a yo-yo-loving local staple at Hogan’s Pub in Clarkston, WA. “David Crocker has some of the most fascinating stories, he just needed someone to listen to them and then tell them for him in a much louder voice.” While Crocker’s life is quiet now, by comparison, The Maple Bars chronicle his wild younger years, with exploits such as fixing Elvis’s TV in Vegas and developing an intense love for the Oliver Stone’s film Natural Born Killers, which Crocker claims “was the best motherf_ck’n movie that I ever did see.” 

The Maple Bars’ sound, like flavors of their namesake, is instantly accessible, yet rich. Vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Mason McCroskey’s barreling baritone leads the charge; a captain lost at sea and guiding his crew through a storm with land in sight. The rhythm section of the salty crew, bassist/guitarist/background vocalist Austin Moody and drummer Trenton Meeds, batten the hatches and hoist the sails as their musical ship becomes a battering ram of groove. To be blunt: their live shows aren’t to be missed, unless you’ve got a pre-existing heart condition.

A note those who are interested…
Twenty years ago in the late spring and summer of 1996 I was in a band called "Rites Of Passage" with Roger Hodgson, his son & my buddy Andrew Hodgson, another pal Rich Stanmyre, saxophonist extraordinaire John Helliwell, and keyboardist composer Jeff Daniel. Together we played the entire summer working from 10a to 10-10p 5-7 days a week having a lot of fun and getting to know one another as much as one can do in a band situation.

We made a lot of music together, we laughed, we argued, and in the end the band and its music became the name of a Roger Hodgson solo album, his third in fact. There's some good tracks on that record and a few that never made the cut.

This is one of them called "Not Enough Time" featuring Roger on electric guitar, Andrew on drums, Rich on electric bass, John on tenor sax & solo, Jeff on keys and me on guitar and vocals.

It was composed during our non-stop jams with both myself and Rich taking credit for the music and me for the words.

It was originally mixed for the album by my old friend and Nashville mastering buddy Brian Foraker (look around & you'll find his name on lots of great records). Alas it didn't make the cut for the album and has been languishing in my archives all these years along with several other unreleased work tracks. 

Seeing as how it's currently the 20th anniversary of that project it seemed fitting to finally release it to the world, I mean why not?

There's a couple of others I will be posting as well soon, but for now I'll start with his one.
