'Either Way' is a record about the rather sour ending /or turbulence of a relationship - love relationship, friendship or even family ties. It lets the other person know that that wasn't ok, and If you didn't love them, it would have gone a whole other way but you are not here to judge.

On the 9th of June Codewalkers are back with a new single. 'Nothing 4 Free' is about dysfunctional relationships, in this case a guy who is threatened by the partner of a female friend. He’s not interested in her, and he’s not interested in getting beaten up because of her. Based around a syncopated guitar hook and combining live drums and bass with electronic elements, the rapped verses explode into huge choruses, the band joined by the soulful vocals of Becky Winfield for the first time on record.

The track follows on from the success of their last releases ‘Preternatural’ and 'Santa is a Pimp', which as well as receiving airplay on BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio Wales, the former was made Tom Robinson’s BBC6 Music Mixtape Pick of the Week. ‘Nothing 4 Free’ is accompanied by a live video performance of the track, filmed at Theatr Soar, Merthyr.

Nothing 4 Free

Johnny’s on the Water was learned from the singing of Appalachian folk singer Jean Ritchie (1922 - 2015). It twists the archetypal story of a woman left behind by a sailor, the singer rejecting grief and finding empowerment: ‘if he can live without me, I can live without him’. This line became the heart of our arrangement. 

We created this arrangement in residence at Snape Maltings in 2022. In slowing down the tempo, destabilising the rhythm, and replacing Ritchie’s sparse dulcimer accompaniment with an ensemble of modular synths, guitars and affected strings, we explore the way that the open sea warps our understanding of time and distance. The trumpet solo was played by Lissie Daly, a tireless campaigner for women in brass.

After four years in the making India Electric Company present their third album Pomegranate.
From the grips of an underworld without concerts and shared experience comes to the surface an album built in the heart of the West Country describing a life very much in motion whilst in the grips of standing still.
It weaves through their musical heritage combining their traditional folk roots, their dalliance with electronic analogue synths along with rhythms cultivated in lands further afield and an unadulterated love of pop.

Chimpanzee’ is the earliest written track on the album, inspired by country influences and Bonneville’s experience of moving away for the first time. Looking out of a high-rise flat in Oxford Street Manchester, Bonneville felt like the chimpanzee shot into space in the 1960s. Many will relate, floating away on this melancholic melody and meeting the Chimpanzee and Bonneville in these feelings of being lost and confused.

Liam Rickard (Worldwide Welshman) is a singer-songwriter, folk-singer, artist and occasional comedian from Betws-y-Coed, now based in Machynlleth. WWW often performs with a band. When they're not available, he performs with an imaginary band. WWW and his friends (under various guises) have been performing their multi-lingual mix of tragic-comic party anthems and folk-pop ballads across Europe and beyond since about 2007.
