This is the official soundtrack for the Age of Empires III mod, Wars of Liberty, that has been newly remastered in 2023. This soundtrack is meant to combine the different cultures and civilizations the game offers into one cohesive set of musical pieces. Each track represents a different culture that is played during the game. There are also certain tracks that are played at a specific moment in the game that helps the player hear and learn about the civilization that is presented.

Wars of Liberty Original Soundtrack: Remastered

One of the bonus tracks featured in this remastered edition. This piece focuses on the Latino civilizations that were first born after gaining their independence from the French and Spanish. The game offers many of these civilizations, with their own unique culture that makes them stand out. This piece was inspired by the people in the local towns and villages in the countryside who took refuge in the Haciendas that were the heart of their communities. The tune features a wide range of Latin percussion to give a driving Clave rhythm that sets the theme, while having a strong harmonic melody on the guitar. This allows the player to experience the sound of the Latino’s strong and creative heritage that made them stand out from all else.

Palace Hacienda

The second bonus track of this soundtrack. This one explores an area of the world that is far isolated from most other civilization, near the tropical islands deep in the Pacific Ocean. The people who inhabited this area were the Polynesians. This song is inspired by the local tribal music where rituals take place to bless the sky so that there can be rain. The piece features a many percussion instruments, such as the droning sound of the Digeredoo and the massive bass drums that keep a steady rhythm.

Rainmaker

Another bonus piece added to the original soundtrack. This piece is meant to originate from the ancient lands of the Anglo-Saxons. The local people there were embedded in the vast history of the Celtic traditions, and the music that they shared. This piece is meant to resemble a traditional Celtic folk song in which the locals played to their kingdom. Many traditional Irish and Celtic instruments are featured in this piece, along with orchestral strings that creates the setting of the place in the heart of the Celtic homelands.

Valley of Cairn

This final piece is meant to represent the growth and struggles of building an empire. This track has multiple movements which introduces new melodies to describe  the different themes. The piece was inspired by traditional Japanese folk tunes that tell many stories of mythology.

Dynasty of Light

The opening theme track to Wars of Liberty. This piece was inspired by the base game, Age of Empires III opening track, as a similar motif is played throughout the piece. This theme adds a wide variety of instrumentation from many different parts of the world. The melody is strong and keeps adding on to the excitement, resulting in a final crescendo with booming drums now present, ending the piece strong and confidently.

AOE III Wars of Liberty Official Soundtrack

A New Dawning

This track was the first creation of the Wars of Liberty soundtrack which acts kinda like a secondary theme song. The purpose of this track was to make a piece that combines different instruments and styles of music into one track that is filled with action.

War At Dusk

This piece is meant to reflect on the African cultures that are presented in the game. The local tribes of the Zulu kingdom were known for their strong and independent culture that spread all throughout south Africa. With that, also came music and art, using it as a way to boost spirits and for rituals. The Zulu were masters at playing their native percussion instruments in creating a melody within the complex rhythms. This piece uses these techniques to create a melody within percussion that sounds fresh and tribal to reflect the strong heritage of the Zulu.

Zulu Sunrise

This piece is dedicated to exploring the culture and sounds of the European east. With the howling winds present throughout the track, it is a reflection of the climate and lifestyle of the eastern civilizations. Many of the unique instruments of the traditional east European cultures are heard in the piece, giving a folk like style to reimagine the local peoples and their songs played within the polar streets of St. Petersburg.

Eastward

This track takes a more cinematic approach, using the mellow strings as a way to build up momentum in the piece, and sustaining the many harmonies played within the chords. The second half then opens up with a solo Oboe that rings out a melody, following with a tenor ranged Erhu that adds some harmony to the Oboe, making a final crescendo that completes the piece.

Golden Age

This track comes at quite a shock, as the loud and driving force of the drums catches the ear by surprise. This rhythm serves as a baseline to the booming sounds of the horns that follow the melody. Hence the title, this piece reflects the loud noises of battle that creates an intense feeling that urges the senses to stay alert.

Drums of Battle

This piece travels to the birthplace of one of oldest monotheistic cultures in the world, hence the name, Hinduism. Inspiration was found at the special prayers and rituals done with the monks, kneeling down, hearing the spiritual drone of the Sitar and the melodic rhythm of the percussion. As the piece progresses, so does the layers of harmony of the strings, symbolizing the good will and drama created out of sounds.

Hindu Grove

This music piece symbolizes the Balkan lands and the high mountain ranges of the Balkan Peninsula. The song name "Botev Peak" comes from the highest peak in the Balkan mountain ranges which symbolizes great height and power!

Botev Peak

This piece revolves around a mighty kingdom during its peak of prosperity. The emperor is the one who is in control of this empire, which inspired this track to show the power of his reign, while hearing the mellow sounds of prosperity. Traditional Chinese instruments are featured.

Emperor of the East

This track takes the player to the center of the Equator, on remote islands that are filled with tropical resources for the taking. The Caribbean islands experienced a strong shift in culture after the independence of their occupiers. This piece features the wide variety of percussion including the Steel Drums that ring throughout the sounds of the tropical shores.

Castaway

This piece sounds like what you would hear at church or a large cathedral. Whether you just started your empire or have been playing the game for hours, this song wakes you up! Feel inspired to grow your empire when you hear this. This track is inspired by the many religions that are available in the game, in which a civilization can choose which faith they will put their efforts in. The roomy sounds of a pipe organ is sounded throughout the piece as if the player was sitting down in a cathedral in worship.

Convoy of Conquest

This piece is played in the favor of the enemy, when the game is lost. The gloomy strings are heard, along with a loud chime that reminds the player that their time is now up. After the sounds of loss, comes a voice and a flute, mournfully singing in the absence of everything else. It is a sad, yet hopeful melody that the player can learn from in future games.

Endless Darkness

The second movement of the Besiege piece. This section brings the returning intensity of an ongoing battle. This time, a more melancholy melody is heard with a flute playing on top of the drums and low strings that make a dark presence. The piece then returns to a big crash of the cymbals and drums to regain the attention of the player, warning that the siege isn’t over.

Besiege II

This quick but optimistic tune is played when the player is at a point of accomplishment. It is a moment of celebration for the victory of the game. The fast paced and peaceful melody of the strings set a proud and happy closure to the player’s victory.

Gift of the Gods

This piece represents the dignity and royalty of the European empires, who created vast empires to show their dominance and influence. Much of the Western music and culture came from these empires, which spread throughout the globe. Many composers in western music wrote and played their music on the piano, which is what this track is intended to present.

Civil Lands

The first part of the Besiege piece. This track is played when the siege of a colony is taking place. The loud and thunderous horns are meant as a reminder that the soldiers are at the gates of the town center, burning it to the ground. You can then hear the battle drums ring out that play along with the horns and accordion, in a tango like melody to match the intensity of the siege.
