Small Space Music (SSM) is here to connect curious listeners with music that is taking place in the nooks and crannies of the Melbourne scene. 

SSM supports the presentation of an array of events in lesser known venues and repurposed spaces.  We work closely with the music community and our venue partners to offer a wide range of great “off the grid” music that is happening Melbourne today.  

We are not here to decide for you, only to let you know it exists and where you can find it.

Harry Coulson is a Melbourne-based guitarist and composer whose distinctive improvisation and compositional style comes as much from punk and blues as it does from the jazz idiom. He graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music Performance and completed his honours in the same at Monash University in 2012 as well as attending the summer jazz courses at New York University in the same year. He released his debut album “Harry Coulson’s Rain Dogs” in 2014 under the production of composer/producer Jonathan Dreyfus and in 2015 he was the recipient of a TD Jazz Scholarship to attend the International Workshops in Jazz and Creative Music at the Banff Centre in Canada where he studied and performed with renowned artists such as Miles Okazaki, Ingrid Jensen, Mark Turner, Vijay Iyer, Harish Raghavan, Becca Stevens and Tyshawn Sorey. 

Recent performance credits include the St Kilda Festival, Mornington Jazz Festival, High Street Festival, Leaps and Bounds Festival, and the Adelaide Fringe as well as live to air performances on ABC Radio in Melbourne (774), Canberra (666), and on ABC Statewide drive and ABC Central Victoria. 
His trio the Rain Dogs were the backing band for Adam Hills at the opening gala of the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and undertook there first east coast tour with the assistance of funding from Creative Victoria in April/May 2015.

He currently is in-demand for session and education work within his hometown of Melbourne, while at the same time working on a number of original projects as well as getting the odd spot of surfing in…
