Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles are a four-piece band from North Wales/North West UK comprised of Billy Bibby/lead vocals, guitar; Thomas Hill/lead guitar; Matt Thomas/bass, vocals; and Ailis Mackay/drums. Since playing their first full band gig in November of 2015, it's been non-stop with close to 100 gigs and festivals in 40+ UK cities, combined with the release of a début EP and three follow-up singles. Hard work is paying off in the form a growing, grassroots fan base, as well as music industry recognition via two grant wins from Horizons/BBC Launchpad and Arts Council of Wales to further fuel new music development, touring, and promotion. 

Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles have caught the attention of numerous tastemakers including Adam Walton of BBC Introducing, Clint Boon, Phil Clifton, and Jo Good of Radio X, Tim Cocker of Virgin Radio UK, Jim Gellatly of Amazing Radio, NME, BBC Radio Wales, and over 100 radio and media outlets in the UK and abroad. 

Manchester legend Clint Boon describes the band's music as "that classic sort of British songwriting with a strong nod to Americana" naming Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen as points of reference and predicting "a massive future". The band's influences remain diverse and ever-changing, both classic and cutting edge, with new songs constantly being added to the live repertoire. Although the band formed recently, reviewers consistently remark that the group chemistry and level of musicianship are such that they play like a veteran ensemble. Bibby has clearly surrounded himself with talent. We started in 2010 when we met at school in our hometown of Mirfield. We were 11 when we started and were lucky with the opportunities we got and the facilities available to us. We often played concerts in school and got quite a lot of experience from the school which meant when we got older the concerts got bigger and we've even played for 12,000 people. Our influences include bands such as Catfish and the bottlemen, The Kooks, Blink 182, Greenday, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and many more and because of this our sound is very inspired by these artists however we try to be individual and combine some of their signature sounds. We now gig frequently across Yorkshire playing covers and our originals and all these are kept updated on the Facebook/Twitter page.
