◾How did you come up with a dj name: - My middle name is Vaughan, i used to work with a guy who had the last name of Funkhauser and I loved that name. I thought to myself that if that was my last name i'd be Jason Vaughan Funkhauser, it had a ring to it. I was hesitant to take on an alias, but I told myself that if and when I ever put out some original music, that I would use it. It took several years for that time to come.

◾When did you start djing: in 1996, so about 25 years ago.

◾Favorite DJ moment: Mark Farina has always been a hero of mine, so opening for him was definitely a high point. Playing at Burning Man, Love burn, Transformus over the past 12 years has provided many amazing moments as well.

◾Favorite genre/subgenre to spin:  house/Deep house, funk/soul edits, organic breaks, party jams.  I tend towards the deeper side, I like a lot of live instruments, and its gotta have some soul.  I  have had a weekly residency for 11 years at Soul Gastrolounge in Clt on Thursday nights, which is a very popular reestaraunt bar/lounge, so i like to play a lot of slower stuff, background vibes and that.  But I like to rock the party too, so some tech, tribal house and breaks when the time is right,  So just depends.

◾Favorite artists:  Mark Farina, Jazzanova, Todd Terje, Kaytranada to name a few.

Techno can be technically easier than other genres - it is more regular, easier to mix, fairly forgiving in the micro. I think it's one of the harder genres to work with from a storytelling perspective - it's harder to avoid monotony, and despite the intensity, easy to become boring and predictable. I took some time away from techno because I got into a rut where the music I was playing was anxious and dark and suffused with the bad sort of urgency. Recently a few tracks (particularly by Eli Brown) have been so incredibly fun and filled with life that it got me back on the bus. I hope you have fun with this, I had a blast.

This mix is the first part of my daytime set from the Welcome to Pangea pt. 15 festival and features many variations of organic progressive sounds - combining tribal elements with groovy basslines, warm melodies, and thick psychedelic atmospheres. Progressive house and trance has always been one of my favorite sounds to play out and works extremely well in the daytime when the sun is out. This set was a blast to play live and I hope you enjoy the summer vibes.

Stuart Hill Robinson RIPEcast Live at Unison 5

For over a decade Lick the DJ has been playing on the same continents as Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Trentemøller, Adam Beyer, Bassnectar, Daft Punk, Missy Elliott, Britney Spears, and many more. While in Berlin during the temperate summer of 2011 he successfully visited the headquarters of M-nus Records and was refused entrance to the world famous Berghain night club. He did, however, get into Twilo three separate times in the '90s.
