Bawri Chhori

A beautiful conversation between a mother-daughter! A folk lullaby from himachal...the language is Pahaadi.

Below is the translation-

Amma puch di, sun dhiya meri e, dhubari itni tu kya kar hoyi ho

The mother asks her daughter, what is it that worries you (why do you look so skinny)

Paarli baniya, mor jo bole ho, amma ji ine more nindara gavayi ho

(Daughter says) The calls of the peacock in the neighboring forest are not letting me sleep

Sadh le bandukhi jo, Sadh le shikari jo, dhiye bhala eta more maar giraana ho

(Mother) Lets call the gunman, lets call the hunter, and lets get this peacock killed

Morni maarna, morni gavaana ho, ho amma jee eta more pinjara puvaana ho

(Daughter) Killing the peacock would mean losing it, we should just put it in a cage

Kuthi janda chandra ma, kuthi jaande tare ho, oh amma jee kuthi jaande dilaan de pyaare ho

(Daugher) Where does moon go, where do the stars go, o mother where do the ones we love disappear

Chupi janda chandra ma, chupi jaande tare ho, ho dhiye bhala naiyo chupde dilaan de pyaare ho

(Mother) The moon hides and so do the stars, o daugher but those we love never go anywhere.

Another folk song by Mohit chauhan (Morni), this one from the album Pehchaan. There is more to the lyrics than meets the eye. This little girl knows killing the peacock would mean losing it. She knows that destroying is not the equivalent of conquering. One must aim at solving a problem that is worrisome instead of fighting it.

Another way of looking at it which ties the whole song together is that in life loved ones will never leave your side no matter what. They are precious. So if there is friction, compromising or moving away is better than putting an end to the relationship all together. Well that is just my take on the song, it could just be as simple as it sounds. I think I have started to over think everything I read these days. Should take a break!

The Anirudh Varma Collective is a collaborative project, bringing artists and musicians of diverse musical and cultural backgrounds together to form a unique musical identity. The idea behind this venture is to showcase Anirudh’s identity as a composer, producer and music director, incorporating the energy and perspectives of the musicians who are being featured on his compositions and repertoire. 

 This particular project is a contemporary representation of Hindustani Classical Music, for both the musician and audience community. This album aims to portray and represent Hindustani Classical Music using Western Classical Music sensibilities as well as a whole host of other influences brought to the forefront by collaborators. Contributors to the album include veterans, such as Pt. Sarathi Chatterjee, Ehsaan Ali, Pavithra Chari and Ritesh Prasanna to name a few, as well as a talented array of younger artists. 

The album is an incredible blend of over fifty musicians from the contemporary Indian music industry, coming from diverse musical backgrounds, and bringing in their own colour and identity on this album. The project involves a myriad set of gifted artists, designers and filmmakers who are part of the production and creative team. 

 The Anirudh Varma Collective is an attempt to showcase the eclectic hues and innumerable facets of the contemporary Indian Art Scenario.

Agnee - Raanjhan Yaar Di

The verdant landscapes of Kaziranga set the stage for this collaboration between Angaraag 'Papon' Mahanta and Rabbi Shergill in Episode 6. The former is a native of the state, and revered for introducing an entire generation to ancient folk melodies. The latter introduces his Sufi-tinged, intrinsically Punjabi sound for a memorable collaboration.
