If you've been following Le Visiteur for a while you will have hopefully caught some of @athlete-whippet's earlier work on Toy Tonics and Squareglass. This talented Berlin / London duo have been turning all the right heads over the last few years with some properly cool house tracks and now they have landed on the brilliant @thehouseofdisco label for their latest release.

Their Talk About This Love EP features two original tracks and a couple of top of the drawer remixes from heavy hitters Demuja and Aroop Roy. 

To celebrate the release of the EP we asked Athlete Whippet to step up to the LV decks and they have spun this beautifully textured mix together for us which features tracks from the EP.

Renowned for cleverly fusing different musical influences into timeless contemporary jams, Athlete Whippet is headed up by Robin Paul Braum in the DJ booth and together with long-term collaborator Aviram Barath in the studio. Spread across Berlin and London they've become an integral part of both cities’ scenes in recent years with releases and remixes for the likes of Toy Tonics, Rhythm Section, Kitsuné Musique and House of Disco. Taking a communal approach to music making, they co-run artist collective and record label Squareglass - a proudly established home for new artists coming out of South London. Athlete Whippet have also been hosting intimate nights with DJs from far across the electronic music ecosystem since 2019. Guest sets from the likes of Seb Wildblood, Aus Music head Will Saul, Jitwam, Rebecca Vasmant, Amy Dabbs and some of the scene's brightest new talents have made for some unmissable parties in London's and Berlin's cosiest venues. Their releases have also come with reworks from Ross from Friends, Baltra and Max Graef. Regular supporters incl. Pete Tong, Annie Mac (BBC 1), Tom Ravenscroft, Jamz Supernova (BBC 6), Mixmag, DJ Mag. Following a lockdown season with shows on Rinse FM, HÖR and Worldwide FM (with guests incl. Nicola Cruz, Lefto, Nightwave), the duo have ended 2021 with European tour dates alongside Session Victim, Dan Shake, Paula Tape, Esa Williams and COEO.

In this edition of Gone Fishing, Athlete Whippet first runs a few records to intro the show and then proceeds to interview @ciel_dj on her upcoming 'Orlando' EP - out now on !K7 Records.

In their conversation, Ciel delves into the writer's block she overcame and where she drew inspiration from during the pandemic. She also deepens on her long list of collaborations as well as her approach to collaborating with other artists. Snippets from the EP are included towards the end of the show where Ciel also gives us a sneak peak into other up-and-coming releases.

Slowly but surely, Berlin-based English producer @athlete-whippet's sumptuous sounds have charmed the house and disco world. With serious musical chops backing up his dance floor grooves, it's no wonder Toy Tonics have snapped him up to be part of their family, and his work continues to become ever-more sophisticated and infectious. He treats us to some works-in-progress in the mix alongside some of his tastiest morsels to date.


*How would you describe your sound?*

It’s sort of ever evolving but I’d say the thing that always plays a big role is that it’s very much a hybrid between club music and songwriting. I come from a background of playing in bands to production, and DJing was actually the last piece of the puzzle for me.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

Many, many people and things. These days I’ve come back to composing my songs on instruments rather than in the box and started singing a lot more again. I’m also so fortunate to be part of a wonderful scene of artists between Berlin and London which is a constant inspiration.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

It’s been a nice chance to delve back into things from the early days, something that I rarely ever do. I’ve started off with new stuff from recent records which represents my sound now, and then as I build up the confidence, I go into some current work in progress somewhere in the middle before going back to the very roots at the end.

With 2018 well underway at this point, we’re cruising through the Truancy Volumes and who better to take over the wheel than notorious speed devotee Finn McCorry? First surfacing with the punchy, charming R’n’G of “Keep Calling” on Local Action Records, Finn’s gone on to release three charismatic EPs on the label, had a remix package done and even dropped a cassette – his Accelerated Club mix. Fueled by ghetto house, Baltimore and Jersey influences, Finn created 2 B Real last year as a vehicle for tracks such as “Late at Night” and the irresistible “Lightwork” featuring Manchester MC Fox. During the final sprint of 2017, he delivered “Sometimes The Going Gets a Little Tough”, an undeniable, almost messianic house pumper with a vocal loop descending direct from the heavens. Dedicated to “everyone who tries their very best”, the tune made an unexpected jump from Manchester’s Soup Kitchen basement to the USBs of Annie Mac, Diplo and more.

Finn was DJing long before he began producing, regularly behind the decks for the Chow Down parties. He has a penchant for fast music, as made evident through his residency on NTS Radio (as well as his recent show with Truants’ Michelle.) If a monthly slot wasn’t enough, he has his own B2B series and somewhere between all that he manages to run NTS Manchester on the weekends.
