When trying to make creative decisions based on the results of somebody else's process it makes you try things out that perhaps you wouldn't normally think of and I'd say with every remix I've ever done I've come away with something new.  Sometimes its interesting to take a track in a completely new direction but in the case of Max and Tom's collaboration I was immediately drawn to the subtle harmonic undercurrent of the synth lines beneath the main piano parts and figured it would be interesting to put together an arrangement that brought that to the fore. 

I started with a rough layering and overlay of the piano samples - trying to re-arrange them into different combinations than in the original to create something that had the same feel (on a side note, its always pleasing to work with recordings like this of instruments that sound played - i.e., you can hear the movement of the pedals and the fingers on the keys rather than a surgically-extracted sequence of notes) but that came to the main melodies from a different angle.  I can't really compete with Max's glitchy rhythmic production and since this is so distinctive it seemed like a bit of a cop-out to make too much use of these samples in any case so in the end the main part of what I used of the rhythm was a short kick drum sample that I processed in various ways to create the studded melodic cross-rhythm that I used for most of the middle of the track.

With the bare bones in place the majority of the rest of the work came from layering up the arrangement with the kinds of synths and strings that I make use of in my Petrels stuff.  Like I said, I was drawn to the low root synth line in the original that casts a subtle melodic shade over the piano lines so using this as a starting point I slowly built up the orchestration around it so as to make it much more of a focal point.  In the end, hopefully the result is something akin to a huge group of assorted musicians attempting a spontaneous live version of what essentially started as a duet performance. Well that was the idea anyhow.

Lusine has been one of my favourite producers for a long time. I'm just going back over some of his first releases on Ghostly International from the early 00's, and it's amazing how ahead of the game he's always been. His combination of delicate productions and beautiful warm analogue melodies, intricacies and amazing shuffling grooves have been a big inspiration for me over the years, with his "A certain distance" album from 2009 being one of my all-time most listened too albums.

So Lusine was one of my ideal remixers for the album, and thanks to Sean at Decibel festival, the hookup was made and he was into the idea. He's turned out a beautiful remix of Woven Ancestry, which if you've seen me play recently, you probably heard in my set. The mix has special balance of being a great piece of music to listen to at home, but then when it's unleashed in a club it's groove takes on a whole new life which I hadn't seen coming until I tried it out - Thanks Jeff!

	I am excited the release of the the first of three Cualli albums entitled "La Ceremonia"  1, 2 and 3.  These tracks are collections from the past two years, the first release being the newest material and the third being the oldest.  "La Ceremonia 1" is available now at www.cuallimusic.com, 2 and 3 will be released  in September of 2014.  
	The albums will be available for free or pay what you want.  In addition, My friend Unmess has made an amazing piece to serve as the artwork for the album.  I am pleased to announce that we will be will also be offering high quality prints of the artwork in conjunction with downloads of the album/s.
	The inspirations for the tracks has varied but the Earth and Mother Nature run through all of it.  Though I am the worker who brought this music into existence I cannot take credit for it as ultimately, all things go back to their origin, to their source.  Many years ago I experienced a deep connection with the Earth and though this moment in time was fleeting,  ever since it has been my mission to continue cultivating this connection and helping others to cultivate their own connection with the Earth.  
	There is a saying that in life, we are never given more than we can handle and I know that we experience times in life where we feel like it is just too much to go on.  In a similar fashion, this is what the Earth is going through.  We as humans need to regain our connection with the the Earth.  There are many ways that we can help her and I am happy to hear many related conversations emerging on a grander scale.  
	For me, I have chosen to help take some of the heavy load that her soul bears into my own soul.  I also choose to appreciate nature and share this appreciation.  Both of these things are part of what I am sharing in my music.  Mother Nature is such a fun and loving being but like any good mother, she wants to keep her children safe.  Sometimes this comes out in hurricanes of natural force, brutal but purifying.  
	It is my prayer that she feel my love for life here on Earth.  From the butterflies, to the hippos, to the jungle to the redwoods, to the flowers, this planet of which we are stewards is an amazing, wondrous and beautiful place.  I for one want humans and other life to be able to flourish on this planet.
