Hello friends! Here is the recording of my very first set at Stereo Montréal

A place that truly feels like (((home))) 

A room that means so much to many of us and that sparks wonders for those who haven't been yet. A space where we can be free, all together. A spaceship that uses vibrations to bend space and time. A temple where music becomes alive.

It was an honour to have the chance to play in this room for 11 hours to the most amazing group of humans. It's been a dream of mine for so many years to have the chance to play there and it's one of most meaningful moments I ever lived. Stars were aligned, the collective energy was truly beautiful and I am happy to be able to share with you the soundtrack of that night. 

Thanks to all the @stereonightclub team for the incredible work to co-create such a sacred space for music. 

A special thanks to Luc for the cosmic visuals during the night.

And thanks to all of you family and friends who joined the journey.

“This was the first night back on the playa since 2019, and also the first night of my first burn. I was still getting my bearings, and now here we were, biking in search of the famed Mayan Warrior in the middle of a dust storm with nearly whiteout conditions — it was one of those surreal images of Burning Man that will be with me forever.

We followed the art car into the dust until it parked in front of the “Reflection” art piece. Once aboard the Mayan, I was stunned by the sea of colorful lights illuminating the dark desert, a scene beyond imagination. This set is the result of the incomparable, pulsating energy from everyone around me — it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

To have had the opportunity to play for the 10 year anniversary of Mayan Warrior was a huge honor. Thank you to the entire MW crew who made this dream come true, and to everyone who came out to support and welcome me home. xx Julya ”

"Five years ago, I experienced the extreme joy of dancing in front of Mayan Warrior for the first time. My mind was blown with this incredible work of art, the interactivity of the design, the lights, the lasers, and the mind bending, soul enriching musical journey. I'm so honored that this year I got to play a live set on this incredible vehicle of dreams, on its tenth anniversary at Burning Man, in the company of all these incredible artists, technicians, musicians and DJs.

And the moment... it was sublime... after days of harsh dust storms, the air calmed just as I got aboard with our captain Pablo who drove us into the playa as I started playing the keys and watching the beautiful people on their bicycles following! At a certain point I left my body to take a look around this breathtaking scene of the playa, the mountains, the people, the sound... I felt such a wave of joy, inspiration and gratitude for life.

A heartfelt thank you to Rodrigo, Pablo and Amal for having me share in your magic, to the warm brilliant people of Mayan Warrior and to the beautiful people who danced as I played!"

Burners Without Borders (BWB) is a community organization within the Burning Man Project that works in disaster relief and civic works projects in communities around the world. From building composting toilets at Standing Rock, to permaculture action at Hoover Elementary in West Oakland, to building a Youth Center in the Calais refugee camp, BWB is Burning Man at its finest.

Christopher Breedlove is the Director of Civic Activation at the Burning Man Project where he oversees the Burners Without Borders, Regional Network, and Civic Arts programs. Hailing from Chicago, he is an also an artist, educator, and an inspiring public speaker. 

On the show we talk about Hurricane Katrina and the origin of BWB. We get into the technicalities of how a theme camp became an NGO. We talk about Standing Rock, Calais, and Uhuru Land, a refugee camp in Uganda. We discuss the Burning Man Sustainability Road Map for 2030 and an initiative to create an asset map for Burning Man infrastructure around the world. The through line of this conversation is the value of service: how to get involved, how to support each other, and how not to burn out. Above all, how can we weave service into our lives for the betterment of our communities, our friends, and our own mental health?

Today’s episode is dedicated in loving memory to Affinity Mingle. Affinity, was a beloved member of the Burning Man community, a dear friend, and a huge supporter of this podcast. It is fitting that an episode about service would be dedicated to Affinity, as she was so committed to volunteerism that Burning Man’s first award for volunteers was named after her and awarded to her at the Artumnal Gathering in 2012. Thank for for your wonderful big heart, mentorship and inspiration Affinity. We all miss you deeply.
