Jiggler’s first offering of the year comes in the form of two original mood setters and Kellerkind on duty for a remix of the title track. “Illusions” kicks off with an ascending groove, layering up arpeggiated synths and subtle vocal cuts. Relentless bass and a steady pace create a solid progression, upholding dancefloor tension even after the breakdown. Bringing the vocals forward as the focal point, Kellerkind morphs the track into a heavy progressive exploration. Led by a gloomy, wobbling bass and mechanised cuts, we’re treated to a more spacious and playful take on the initial arrangement. “Wanting” stays true to its name, revealing an anticipation-building percussion dotted with clangs that give way to a rolling house bassline. Transient vocals and high pitched synths join in, resulting in an addictive classic house cut with a deep twist. All in all, a versatile release that packs both peak time punch and late night deepness.

Some of you already know that I'm a big lover of Movie Soundtracks. I really like those punchy violins that you can hear in some action movies, so I decided to try to make some. After making a big part of the track, I thought that it was still missing something. I made it to listen to a couple of friends, and one was with his daughter, Elea, 9 years old. She seemed to enjoy the track and was very interested to music. So I asked her if she would like to sing on it and we had a lot of fun doing it. Here's Alex's and my oral history of this track..

Alex:  "The idea for ‘Eve’ came about from a short session in my studio where I sketched out some very rough 16 bar loops and sent them over to Max to play with, deliberately stopping myself from developing them too far at this stage in order to leave space the collaborative process to evolve."

Max:  "I almost un-wrote a track for this one. Alex started off with the main bulk of the ideas for the track, and I initially chopped it all back to a couple of key elements.   I then experimented with some FFT effects and building some chaotic randomising manipulations of the basic elements, and sliding drum rhythms so that one drum element would slip relative to another and then back in - all an attempt to generate some movement and variation from the simple building blocks."

Alex:   "It was interesting to hear the rough ideas I had created, developed in a totally different way to how they would have had I been writing the track by myself. Inspired by the new direction the track was going in - "

Max:  "I'd made a mess.  Alex helped tidy it all up and bring it enough back into line to work as a dancefloor track"

Alex:  "- I layered some more percussion hits and string textures.  We continued the process of sending stems back and forth, refining each others ideas as well and creating new ones until the track was ready."

Max:  "The quotient series has been a nice opportunity to experiment with new music outside of the restrictions of record labels and their need to sell product.  This freedom has left me open to put out a piano solo and feedback matrix, a 10 minute ambient to drum and bass glitch remix, a track scored to a video, a one off club collab and more - all projects that I wanted to try, and am glad I did, but that wouldn't easily fit into the usual EP/LP formats. 

It's been a sort of sketch and experiment project, much of it tied to the Emergence visual shows, where I've been experimenting with how I can perform music and visual in sync in a live format. "

These moments: the night is already ending, the first sun raises outside, but you are still in that world full of synthetic lights and faces you will never see again in your live. And then there is an organic sound and an unbelievable clear voice. “Moments“ is the new EP by Rafael Cerato & The White Shadow. The vocals by Jinadu are simply thrilling and they are matching perfectly with the powerful and deep sound. “Mentalist“ is much more puristic: A classy bass line, tight claps and string synths. A long lasting break and some inspiring techy parts. “Connexion“ is bringing the story to an end - with moody sounds and a dreamy melody. The day has already begun and you’ll remember these „Moments“ for a long time.

Rafael Cerato & THe WHite SHadow - Moments Feat. Jinadu

A fun little mashup of some of my favourite tracks.  Joris Voorn and Kid A's 'So Long' anchors the track, Matt Karmil's 'Moment' keeps our heads nodding throughout, and Linnéa Martinsson's vocal hook from Adrian Lux's 'Teenage Crime' has always been one of my favourites in the genre. It's been really fun getting to know you through ATTLAS in 2015, and I can promise I have no intentions of slowing down.
