Awakenings Podcast S229 - Avision

ValaV, nacido en Venezuela y radicado en Barcelona, presenta su destacado Psygroove, una denominación con la que identifica su ecléctica fusión de sonidos y ritmos, manifestando una habilidad natural para combinar géneros hipnóticos desde el techno hasta el trance. Su colectivo YO·YO, que cofundó junto con REXER, es una de las fiestas de techno queer de Barcelona. Aboga por valores de igualdad, inclusión y diversidad de la comunidad LGTBIQ+ en la escena electrónica. ValaV ha marcado un camino que lo ha llevado de Hamburgo a Berlín presentándose con GEGEN en el Kitkat, hasta festivales como Hivernacle y Brunch Electronik. Ademas, en los clubes nacionales más reconocidos como INPUT, Florida 135, Moog, Razzmatazz y Apolo, ha compartido cabina con figuras de renombre como Richie Hawtin, Cera Khin, Daria Kolosova, Milo Spykers, entre otros referentes del techno. Como productor, ValaV ha marcado un hito con su segundo lanzamiento, un EP debut titulado "Dancing Memories", que vio la luz el 7 de diciembre de 2023 consolidando su posición en la escena musical internacional. ValaV siempre lleva consigo una energía positiva a donde vaya generando una experiencia musical auténtica en todas su actuaciones.

We're back with episode 24! Recorded in early April 2020, this episode welcomes DJ and producer Luke Slater. 

@Luke-Slater has been DJing since the late 1980s, and by the 90s, his many aliases had become household names thanks to important releases on labels like Peacefrog, and Nova Mute. By 2009, Luke had joined Ostgut Ton, continuing to tour relentlessly and produce music with seemingly boundless energy — a quality with which he continues to approach his work today. His stamina is endless, and in order to keep up with the continuing love and demand for his music, it has to be. In this episode, our discussion focuses on longevity as a DJ, his mix for Ostgut's 15th anniversary, and the drive that keeps him going.

California dance music institution Lights Down Low has been entertaining creatures of the night for over 10 years, throwing parties in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and beyond. What began as a tiny monthly party at the infamous 222 Hyde club in the Tenderloin has become a multi-­city enterprise dedicated to hedonism in all its glory. With non-stop parties in Los Angeles and San Francisco, all shape shifting and geared toward pure sonic satisfaction.   Richie Panic & Corey Sizemore are renowned for their eclectic DJing style and the same holds true for their bookings. 

“We only book the artists and sounds that we play and are fans of first and foremost.The artists that we find in our record bags and we want to bring to the sweaty masses” 

Lights Down Low has featured too many guests to count, but some notable acts include Simian Mobile Disco, Optimo, Four Tet, Barnt, Jackmaster, Volvox, Fatima Yamaha, Veronica Vasicka, Derrick Carter, Helena Hauff, Evian Christ, Josh Wink, Jennifer Cardine, DJ Stingray, Daniel Avery, Paranoid London, Erol Alkan, and Silent Servant.

Founders and resident DJs Corey Sizemore and Richie Panic both got their start in small venues, throwing intimate parties with wild vibes. Separately, each had a dedicated following of partygoers who trusted their taste and curation. Together though, the two have built Lights Down Low into a pure party institution that spans genres, cultures, crews, genders, and more. Everything Lights Down Low stands for, and everything Richie & Corey aim to do is done under the aegis of bringing people from across the dance music cultural spectrum together to rave on the same dance floor. “No limits, no boundaries, just dancing.”
