There couldn’t be a more fitting selector for the first Light Twerkerz LIT MIX than the original west coast rudegyal pon the decks herself, the legendary @TankGyal. She has DJ’d the Light Twerkerz twerkshop and bruckout at Bass Coast Festival every year since the inaugural session at Merritt, British Columbia in 2013. 

Founding resident DJ and promoter of Vancouver’s longest-running dancehall weekly Ting since 2007, and core member of the mighty Lighta! Sound crew, she is true to the origins of sound system culture while tirelessly working to push the vibes forward in the present.

After catching his performance at Bass Coast Festival in 2018, Vancouver, BC based producer/DJ Leland River has quickly become one of our favorite selectors on the West Coast. His ear is impeccable, especially for vibey 140 bpm tunes that span from grime and rap to dubstep, club music, and downtempo, and his productions are top-notch to boot. A truly remarkable skill as a DJ is to take a collection of relatively low-energy tracks and weave them together into an exciting journey that flows smoothly and keeps the listener engaged, and that’s exactly what Leland does with his mixes. DJ Dem Ones delivers a lively LiT MIX of dancehall, reggae, moombahton, r’n’b, afrobeats and trap to keep us bubbling through winter! 

Representing #mightygang from Brampton, @djdem-ones has energized crowds across Canada as touring DJ for Haviah Mighty. Lucky west coast listeners will recall just before Covid closures hit last spring, this dynamic duo went in on a Boiler Room set at Vancouver’s Fortune Sound Club. Watch it on Youtube, along with their Caribana-themed music video “Ba Na Na” with A Tribe Called Red, and you’ll see how Dem Ones is more than a DJ, she’s a hype woman backing up her performing partner on the mic, dancing and vibing up the crowd too. 
 
We’ve loved the mixes she’s released this year including her Rhythm & Bae and Fusion Freestyle sets, and a guest mix for Icarus Sound. Musically Dem Ones’ LiT MiX selections balance classics made fresh with current riddims, edits and blends, with anthems from pop hits to underground secret weapons—ID seekers peep the tracklist, shhhh. And dancers check the Youtube playlist for some inspired dance videos from around the world accompanying the tracks.

Mixing wise, the cuts are quick, the dubwise effects are live, and you can tell she had as much fun recording this LiT MiX as we will dancing to it.
