Humbled and hyped to be featured on the Sublimix series. Big ups to Sublimate for having me and for nurturing forward thinking sounds on this platform! I drew influence for this mix from various styles and sounds that inspire and move me, focusing mainly on elements of Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, UK Grime, and Bass Music. There couldn’t be a more fitting selector for the first Light Twerkerz LIT MIX than the original west coast rudegyal pon the decks herself, the legendary @TankGyal. She has DJ’d the Light Twerkerz twerkshop and bruckout at Bass Coast Festival every year since the inaugural session at Merritt, British Columbia in 2013. 

Founding resident DJ and promoter of Vancouver’s longest-running dancehall weekly Ting since 2007, and core member of the mighty Lighta! Sound crew, she is true to the origins of sound system culture while tirelessly working to push the vibes forward in the present.

After catching his performance at Bass Coast Festival in 2018, Vancouver, BC based producer/DJ Leland River has quickly become one of our favorite selectors on the West Coast. His ear is impeccable, especially for vibey 140 bpm tunes that span from grime and rap to dubstep, club music, and downtempo, and his productions are top-notch to boot. A truly remarkable skill as a DJ is to take a collection of relatively low-energy tracks and weave them together into an exciting journey that flows smoothly and keeps the listener engaged, and that’s exactly what Leland does with his mixes. Our beloved Peruvian-Canadian Neo-Shipibo tribal trap producer has been a Light Twerkerz homie since day 0 at Da Web studio in Vancouver, DJ at countless twerkshops and full moon dances from festivals to house parties, city to forest. 

Now he's delivered this feast of flavours from dancehall to reggaeton to cumbia and afrobeat and west coast bass and trap... full of familiar hits, obscure gems and original productions, this is a truly epic mix. This is a recording of my vinyl set from Shambhala Music Festival 2019, Opening set for The Cedar Lounge stage at The Grove. Recording took place post festival. The Focus of this set was to keep it diverse, cinematic and psychedelic. Really wanted to incorporate some of my early musical inspirations while delivering some fresh sounds. Mix comes with a few mistakes and that vinyl crackle.

She’s serving us the savvy selections of a Polaris Music Prize grand juror, mixed with the soul and skill of a Director at SheDJsYYC, where she offers DJ mentorship and workshops for women in Western Canada. 

You can hear the instrumental of D Big Kitty’s recent debut single with Teafannie, Ladies of the Dance, mixed in here with Mina & Bryte’s “One Leg”, and it’s great to hear new made-in-Canada afrobeats hold their own with contemporary African anthems by producers like Gafacci, Moris Beat, Citizen Boy, Pl4net Dust and Boddhi Satva.
