Plasma Sources is proud to present nosync’s Soundsystem Music, an EP which provides a fresh perspective on the high-fidelity and sci-fi influenced electronic music the imprint is known for. 

nosync’s work sits in a truly unique space in the sound system/club music-o-sphere. This in large part is due to his heavy deployment of progressive metal instrumentation, from chugging walls of overdriven guitars to relentless double-time kick patterns. On paper, utilising this palette in a club-music context may seem like an impossible task. However, where others might see a chasm of disparity, nosync has deftly identified the bridge connecting these two genres, seeing in these two landscapes the same desired emotional state - despite the different methodologies used to achieve this. 

“This record attempts to make the case that the essence of what makes these sounds so obsessively loved are one and the same. Gripping dramatism and intensity are the overlapping themes that I have attempted to bring out here, through the record’s sound design and film-like structure.”

Indeed Soundsystem Music as a whole feels wildly cinematic and is as much an exercise in atmosphere creation as music for sound systems, with nosync citing the video game Dead Space and its sequel as key influences for this body of work. From the claustrophobic, elasticated wind chamber of ‘Traced’ to the broken choir voices and FiS-esque ambient abyss of ‘Dead Land’, nosync has expertly matched the pace and atmosphere of these hugely iconic and utterly terrifying video games and channeled them into a purely sonic experience. 

The metal influences nosync brings to the table slice through the entire corpus of Soundsystem Music, although the linkage is perhaps at its most clear on ‘Airlock’, which features a full-on death-metal guitar chugging through the first half. In perhaps the most surprising switch-up of the entire EP, things suddenly twist into a guttural underwater club track a third of the way through. 

nosync’s love for the vast ecosystem of club/soundsystem music also comes through loud and clear on this release, from the grime-inflected leads and hyper-detailed polyrhythmic noise workouts of ‘Unregistered Hypercam’ to the reverberated metal clangs of ‘Kauket’s Arena’ which feels like witch-house on steroids - the soundtrack to some final boss battle with some type of nightmare-demon-entity. 

nosync has achieved something unique with Soundsystem Music. By drawing together a hugely disparate corpus of influences and pummelling them into a noise-fuelled apocalyptic aberration, he has created a sound which feels consistent, fully his own, and in many places, utterly dread-inducing.

Rawa Club presenta su primer EP del año a cargo de Lukro , productor & DJ multi-género peruanx con base en CDMX y co-fundador/director del sello Matraca. 

En este EP colaborativo Lukro nos presenta dos featurings, Picosa con el productor venezolano Data High y Choqewillka con el Dj y productor mexicano El Chico Callado, uno de los principales exponentes del resurgimiento del tribal guarachero en México co-fundador de Ofensa Netlabel.

Además el EP se completa con dos remixes, uno con autoría de SEWA , productora, sound designer y multi-instrumentista basada en Austin, Texas quien a través de sus producciones busca incorporar su herencia yaqui a sus producciones de "cyber tribal" y otro remix a cargo de Gj Leith , productora, DJ, cantante y escritora originaria de Marruecos y establecida actualmente en Marrakech,quién se interesa por abordar géneros de las periferias globales como el footwork, el baile funk, el dancehall, el shatta entre otros. 

El arte fue realizado por César Martínez Maldonado, artista visual, diseñador, y entusiasta de la escena de música electrónica local originario de Oaxaca, México. Su trabajo gráfico es una reflexión visual y sonora sobre la cultura pop, sus influencias en el lenguaje de masas y los procesos de identificación generacionales con ciertos personajes de ficción por un lado, y por el otro, una reflexión y apropiación del caótico lenguaje del arte urbano.

Liliane Chlela’s ‘Anatomy of A Jerk’ reflects on sonic storytelling, experimenting with the compositional frameworks under which it operates. The Beirut-born producer, dj and performer stands at the forefront of the independent electronic music scene in Lebanon, with a reputation for shattering expectations with her live auditory soundscapes, exploring improvisation and the manipulation of sounds from wide-ranging musical genres. Her fifth record (and first on Infinite Machine) steers further into such territory, warping manic synth patterns into percussive motifs, cutting abruptly in and out of poignant melodic interludes. Chlela’s sonic narratives begin, repeat, break apart, disappear and fold into themselves, encouraging contemplation of the compositional elements–the anatomies–that constitute them.

Each track is a meticulous excursion–a melange of varied constituents carefully and uncannily arranged, sometimes coalescing, often deliberately breaking away from the song’s anticipated structure to bring forth unexpected moments of beauty. The first arrangement, ‘Bison’, is exemplary of this, where high intensity metallic stomps, clangs and stabs form a rhythm that is frequently interrupted and broken apart, sometimes by evasive melodies that tease the listener before fading.

‘Bza2’ and ‘Friendly Fire’ move further into the discomfort of unanticipated moments and interruptions. In each, haunting strings and synth-pad melodies start and stop, floating and pausing over jitters and stutters of mechanical percussion. Other tracks move further into the atmospheric, creating dramatic, theatrical soundscapes. ‘Third Fraud’ leans into this approach, where string progressions and cinematic drums tell a story that is less affronting.

Like previous works of Chlela, these eight compositions reach into a difficult space that is only rewarded with careful attention, patience and openness. The arrangements are invigorated by the distinct nature of the compositional fragments; seemingly divergent patches, sounds and rhythms are paired across an eccentric timeline, providing ample opportunities for listeners to relish in the sudden jerk of the unforeseen.
