It's another vintage Line Noise episode this week, as I revisit an interview I did with Jean-Benoît Dunckel for Radio Primavera Sound in 2022, around the release of his solo album Carbon. (An excellent record, by the way.) Dunckel is perhaps best known as half of the iconic duo Air - one of my favourite bands ever - but he is also a solo artist and renowned soundtrack composer. For Trushmix 239 we got Thurlow Joyce in the mix.
A producer and DJ based between Vancouver, and Berlin. His most recent record, Lemon Citrus, was released on NAFF last year and explores dub techno, trance, and other styles with additional music from Priori x Regularfantasy.

In the mix he presents varied styles of techno on the more early nineties progressive side, with some added elements of micro house, house, trance and ambient.
A one hour and twenty two  minutes of vibes.

About the Mix: 

This is a live recording of the last half of my four-hour opening set before Elena Colombi at Deep Rave, March 2025. The curation was really cool because Elena and I essentially split the peak time hours of the night and each took on the more free-form opening/closing edges of the journey. My intention for this stretch of the mix was to maintain a steady dancey groove, while occasionally spiralling into moments of enveloping chaos. I hope you can feel the strange yet inviting, sometimes overwhelming energy here… like the provocative smell of lilacs on a warm and humid late-spring night.

Seoul-born and currently loving in Tio'tia:ke/Montreal, kiju is one of the core members of the Layer05 outdoor summer rave series and a dedicated member of the DIY community year-round.

New York-via-Chicago trio Purelink – @milliamusic, @kind_tree and @raw_silk – record a deep and dub-soaked minimal techno mix for the Recognise series.

Purelink’s name has become increasingly prominent in recent years. The group – once memorably dubbed “the chillout room Backstreet Boys” – have spent the past half-decade exploring the deepest nooks and crannies of electronic music: fourth-world ambience, zero-gravity dub techno, groggy downtempo, baggy-eyed drum-and-bass. Is it ambient? Sure. But that's just part of the story. Call their music what you will, but it’s consistently remarkable, a slow-motion tumble of histories bound together by a shared interest in blissed-out soundscapes. In conversation with Michael McKinney, they speak about about the friendship, trust and chiller’s mentality that guided the creation of their new album, ‘Faith’, out now on @peakoil.
