In 2019 we were lucky enough to interview the great Australian-Icelandic musician, composer, record producer, sound designer and director Ben Frost about his soundtrack to Dark - AKA the best series ever put to film. Frost has a new album coming out in March, called Scope Neglect. It is his first studio album in seven years, so it seemed like a time to rewind to this 2019 interview we did for Sprung, our daily show on Radio Primavera Sound. I hope you enjoy it.

It's been a while, 6 months to be precise since the last upload so a good time to start putting out more archived Plex sets again! 
Stay tuned etc for more of what came before and I promise there won't be another 6 month gap in getting these out there.

In light of the terrible news on the 12th October where we lost one of Glasgow's finest to ever do it, Jack Revill AKA Jackmaster we felt it right to honour him in a small way by releasing a 2hr set from a Plex back in 2012.

This wasn't Jack's 1st appearance for us, that came in 2007 with the rest of the Numbers crew and as he quickly blew up in popularity on a global scale it became increasingly difficult to pin him down and get him back on again. He should've played in 2009 at the Dopplereffekt show but had to cancel last minute so fast forward 3 years and we finally got him back (but billed as Mystery Guest) to play a pretty much exclusive techno set as in his own words "I don't get to play techno as much as I would like to nowadays.."

Too many classic tracks feature to list here but we venture to Chicago, Berlin, Detroit, Glasgow, London and everything in between...Jack, as many have stated in the past few days knew electronic music and his sets always demonstrated this fact quite clearly with his defined style and approach to track selection. There's a few bumps in the road as is often the case with a purely vinyl set but it's too good a mix to just sit on my hard drive gathering dust so here it is for you all to enjoy and most importantly remember Jack and the good times had listening to him play out, partying with him on the dancefloor and the inevitable carnage at the afters.

You will be missed by many Jack, rest easy man and see you at the after party sometime!

A real cornerstone of the Boston scene and beyond - Blaire is a resident of both Boston’s queer rave collective Boudoir and the breaks-focused Breakfast Collective. SORRYMIX38 finds them performing at Chicago's Smart Bar for the first time for mutual friend Club Chow's monthly party Club Gauche on Thursday August 8th, 2024. Mixed with 2 turntables, 2 CDJs, a mixer, and plenty of scratch records!

This set was incredibly special for me as it was my first time playing in the Midwest - the birthplace of so much music I hold near and dear. I wanted to come into this set with high energy that paced the dancers and a sense of forward motion that would compel them to stay until the last song played. The crowd's energy & reception was unparalleled with people hoopin n hollerin' at every turn. I spent the summer upping my scratch n drop game so to see that hard work pay off during the set felt like a big "fuck yeah!" I felt really free to explore the freakier side of my record bag for this set and I'm thrilled with how it all came out.

Laksa's (@laksauk) contribution to techno is as vital as it is hard to define. The London-based Bristolian never sits still in one stylistic niche and is as likely to ramp up the techno as he is slow then down. His meticulously designed grooves have come on tasteful labels like Hessle Audio, Timedance and Ilian Tape, always with a focus on dance floor dynamics. Further creative outlets come in the form of the re:lax label, club night and NTS show he runs with with re:ni. Most recently he has cooked up the WONDA EP which includes a vocal collaboration with Nyege Nyege-affiliated Phelimuncasi

The podcast he serves up for us is, in his own words, "a mix of hype and hypnotism" and it includes some tasty unreleased music from the man himself as well as the likes of Ma Sha, Siu Mata, Erik Luebs and Crespi Drum Syndicate. The 90 minutes are as wide-ranging as you might expect with bass-heavy grooves, trance-inducing synths, broken techno workouts and tribal rhythmic explorations all making sure both head and body are catered for in style.
