David Teboul, founder of Soft Recordings, has curated a collection of sonic gems from such luminaries as Darren Harper, Sima Kim, Bengalfuel, and others. These dozen tracks reveal a broad spectrum of drone, ambient, experimental, and noise music, with a sprinkling of modern classical.

Each song in the compilation flows into the next. Throbbing melodies, low vibrations, and distorted strings blur, thickening into gritty choirs. The crunch and muted crackle of densely layered tape. Growling, scratchy textures. Despite their differences in styles and backgrounds, the artists' individual works share mood and vision: songs full of longing and half-remembered dreams. Kevin Verwijmeren's opening lush chords, swelling and fading. Leonardo Rosado uses bursts of static to form broken percussive sequences, balanced by the focused formlessness of Saito Koji's fuzzed hum toward the end of the record. Radere's liquid field recordings segue into Kissy Suzuki's warm atmospheric pads. Linear Bells and Endless Melancholy each blend dissonant, atonal structures with sparse, lovely piano melodies. Lost Trail's insistent guitar arpeggios run in counterpoint to the glitched feedback loops of Monolith & Cobalt.

"An Introduction to Soft" is an evening spent in a mountainside cabin, listening to the storm shake the trees in the darkness. Inside, all is still, hushed, waiting. The fervent glow of firelight, bright against frosted windows.

Theo VonWood (b.80) is an artist and multi instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, performer & drawer.


Mark C. Jackman began composing/producing scores for experimental film and dance in 1984 while studying Experimental Electronic Music under Vladimir Ussachevsky (the co-inventor of electronic music/musique concrète, in 1927 with Otto Leuning - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Ussachevsky ) and Music/Art/Aesthetic Philosophy with Paul Banham at the University of Utah.

Jackman relocated to San Francisco in 1988 at which point he began using the project name "skozey fetisch."

The current focus of skozey fetisch is acoustic cacophonies and field recordings presented with minimal, or no manipulation. While per suing this new focus, the project is still actively recording electronic experiments as well.

Christian Samsara, a Danish-born DJ and avid records collector, embarked on his journey into electronic music during his early teenage years. It was during this time that he stumbled upon the ambient genre, which swiftly blossomed into his profound passion and eventually led him behind the decks.   

Throughout the course of his DJ career, Christian has graced numerous festivals and events worldwide. Additionally, he has curated countless mixes for well-known podcast channels and shows such as Inveins, Campfire Stories by Silent Season, 꿈 Kkum, Orb Magazine, just to name a few, revealing his expertise in ambient, downtempo, IDM, and deep techno. His mixes are characterized by a unique blend of abstract cinematic soundscapes and intricate layers of organic textures.  

In 2015, Christian Samsara became a part of Ultimae Records, his first compilation, "Isolated," was released in 2022 and he currently works on a second chapter to be released in 2024.
