‘Primal Inflection’ by I7HVN – A Complex Tale on Safar Collective

After a  seven month hiatus, I7HVN makes a return with Primal Inflection, his first release of 2025. Featuring four originals and four remixes by Innerworld, PYNX & ezkape, Turqua & Vedik the EP finds its home on Safar Collective, blending intricate rhythms and deep atmospheres with his signature broken beat, IDM-influenced sound.

Inspired by a bio-punk aesthetic, the release unfolds with Kekule, a meditative and textured ambient electronica piece that sets the tone with its atmospheric depth. The EP continues with Fluid Mosaic Model, where broken beats flow seamlessly through liquid textures, enriched by rhythmic patterns drawn from Indian religious gatherings. The title track, Primal Inflection, rises with slow-building intensity, locking into a fierce 160 BPM pulse, broken drum patterns, and haunting vocal hooks sampled from Japanese horror. Closing the originals, Chalcanthite glows with a sharp yet delicate energy, racing through fluid IDM sequences while maintaining a warm, melodic core.

Primal Inflection: The Remixes

The remixes on Primal Inflection push the originals into bold new directions, with Fluid Mosaic Model receiving two contrasting reworks. Innerworld takes it into a high-energy psycore-influenced broken beat space, where bleeps guide a chaotic yet controlled soundscape, crushed vocals, and feedback-drenched synths. Vedik, in contrast, strips it down to an old-school garage-inspired groove, blending swinging beats, glitchy textures, and a Burial-esque drum line, with a soft, looping pad adding hypnotic depth.

Pynx & ezkape rework Primal Inflection into a shape-shifting journey, opening with chopped vocals and cinematic build-ups before diving into a hypnotic downtempo phase of dubbed-down kicks and reese-infused basslines. The remix fluidly moves across three genres, keeping listeners locked into its evolving energy.

Closing the series, Turqua transforms Chalcanthite into a formless, guitar-driven reimagination. The track drifts unpredictably, at times veering out of key before resolving into a rich diatonic mode. In live performance, its ethereal interplay of textures and melodies becomes even more immersive, making for a truly boundary-pushing reinterpretation.

Obtuse Swamp's second ecosystem "Hadal Biocenosis" is the result of two years of sonic exploration by Leipzig-based artist Kontinum. Moving from conventional techno to a more bass-oriented sound, he left his comfort zone and experimented with unusual grooves and textures for this release.
