EPM Podcast 162 comes from Were Going Deep’s label head, Placid. Laying down a 100% vinyl mix, Placid digs deep into his crate of underground gems producing a glorious set of acid house rhythms backed by inspirational electronic productions. Steering us into a hypnotic, deep techno state, Placid peppers the mix with elements of rave, electro, breaks and house with the subtle dexterity of a true master. Blending tracks from Marco M Berndt, Roman Flügel, Dircsen, Luke Vibert, Donato Dozzy & DJ Say, Afx, Estroe, Priori and more we get a mix from true clubland maestro at the peak of his powers.

Since 1990, Paul Wise aka Placid legendary for his sets of purest 303-drenched acid, has been spinning at house parties, clubs and festivals across the UK and further afield. Resident at the longest running and best acid house night I Love Acid, you can catch him playing at Were Going Deep parties in his hometown of Bristol and as part of Depth Perception (a collective of music obsessives playing deep electronic music across multiple genres). Placid's gigging biography has taken him to Detroit, New York, Berlin, France, Spain, Belgium and Holland as well as the Glastonbury and BLOC music festivals. 

Reputed to be the owner of one of the world's most encompassing collections of Acid House, Placid is a walking acid-house encyclopaedia who can always be trusted to dig deep into his records crate to bring you a pure vinyl set of the absolute best of Acid House, Detroit Techno, Deep House, Electro and Chicago House. He currently has a 15k strong group dedicated to the deeper sounds on facebook as Were Going Deep and his label of the same name just recently dropped their 11th release.

Was hype and super nice vibes at the club, big up Emma Valtonen @emmavaltonen and Suski @suskidj for great sets as well. The night was recorded, but unfortunately there was a major distorted buzz sound going on through the whole file. Fortunately my friend Pataässä managed to pretty much remove it with plug-in magic, but this also resulted in a very filtered overall feel to the sound, but at least it's listenable. Was a great night so still wanted to share the recording and hope the vibes come through, even if the sound quality is muffled!

Simoncino is a life long student of classicist house and techno. Having soaked up all Chicago and Detroit has to offer for as long as he can remember, Simone Vescovo fomented his own style that draws on the past but looks to his own life for emotional inspiration. Always made with an authentic selection of original hardware such as vintage synths and analog drum machines, his frayed and nostalgic sounds have come on L.I.E.S and Creme Organization, Mathematics and Echovolt. Remixed by everyone from Larry Heard to Chez Damier, this Italian is an adopted son of the cult US house scene who also runs his own HotMix label. 

All of his influences are laid bare on the mix he has served up for us: from deep and vocal stuff to lo-fi and gritty offerings, there is a timelessness and melodic freshness to Simoncino’s house that really stands it apart. Growing ever more cosmic and spaced out as it unfolds, this trip ends up in a blissed out utopia filled with real romanticism.

@wes-baggaley displays a deep appreciation for the queer roots of club culture, both in person and through the contents of his record bag. With dance music’s DNA deeply indebted to LGBTQ nightlife in the 70s and 80s, Wes spreads musical history to dancefloors with a liberal approach and a committed attitude. 

Taking a triumphant mix of electro, techno, funk and all the foundational genres of the community, Wes has his 25 years on the DJ circuit to thank for his endless knowledge. 
In 2016, widespread appreciation for his work finally boomed, and he is now seen as one of the finest selectors around. With landmark bookings at Robert Johnson, Berghain / Panorama Bar and Block 9, his name and music is embedded into the ears of dancers all around the world.
