As I imagine many have been doing since the lockdown began, I’ve been thinking a lot about family, separation, love, and loss. In particular, I’ve been thinking about my twin brothers who passed away at birth, what their lives might have been like had they lived. They were on my mind while I was composing this piece over the past few weeks. I’d like to think some part of them is infused in the music. 

Stylistically, this track is representative of my ongoing effort to create electronic music at the intersection of generative ambient and jazz. Generative techniques, improvised performances, and field recordings were used in its composition. The backing tracks were created by driving various virtual modular synthesizers with a series of Reaktor generative sequencers, all of which were modulated by M4L audio devices. The drums were performed in real time on a Zendrum, with a drum kit sampled by Roy Wooten (Belá Fleck and the Flecktones) as the sound source. The lead melody was improvised in real time on an Ableton Push driving Arturia’s Buchla Easel emulation.
