I Hate Models - Transcendental Fusion [RAWGEM1]

For its 6th release, Berlin-based Klangkuenstler returns to his Outworld imprint with the Weltschmerz EP – an ode to a world in turmoil, prophesying that there's light at the end of a pitch-black tunnel. For there's a fire of passion burning brightly within the depth of these two monstrous new tracks. Make no mistake, this is brutal, floor-shaking techno, yet, despite the sheer force, Klangkuenstler captures the emotional essence of our Zeitgeist, shape-shifting moods between raging anger, deep-blue melancholia and glimpses of hope.
The EP's title-track 'Weltschmerz' kicks off mercilessly at the light-speed-tempo Klangkuenstler has become synonymous with. As a muscular kick thuds below slashing hats and rust-covered atmospherics, a venomous lead snakes through this airtight framework, unfolding into a moment of unadulterated ecstasy. 'Untergang', meanwhile, bursts of pure energy in tired times, thundering violently towards a bittersweet peak of warehouse-sized euphoria. To put it in a nutshell: Klangkuenstler rings in the end and we're going out with a bang.
Though cooked-up for carnage, it's Klangkuenslter's intuition for existentialist contrasts that let the Weltschmerz EP transcend its design purpose to grow into something altogether bigger – touching body, mind and soul alike. The outside world may have ground to halt, but Outworld continues to move.

On The World of Monnom Black II, new artists including VTSS, DIMI (AnD), Vladimir Dubyshkin, Hadone, Fractions, LDS, Aahan and Buried Secrets all throw down tracks which fuse tight machine rhythms with intricate detail. While looking for sounds on Youtube, I came across the "Legend b - Lost in love" sound, I loved it, normal ahah, except that for me it lacked a lot of punch, and size, that's why, with all the respect I have for the original work, I allowed myself to make a rave edit, adding a more punchy kick, drums, pads, ambiences, and a speech about the place of women in the world.

We kick off this year with a new EP from Milio, the solo project of Emiel van den Dungen, who is also one half of Tunnelvisions. Here focusing more on lush synth sounds, he offers a pair of deep and meditative tracks that journey through the cosmos and come with original artwork from Nous Couteaux.

Milio has a fine collection of hardware at home including a Moog Grandmother, Jupiter 8, OB-6, sh101, and more. He often likes to switch on his machines, step into a different world and jam when he is experiencing what he calls 'afterglow' - that feeling you get from a flashback to a club experience that leaves you happy, peaceful and inspired. The artist often sets up in the Willem Twee Studios in his hometown of Den Bosch, which is filled with tape machines that he likes to use to add warmth to his music. He's an artist who becomes at one with sound thanks to his hardware based, hands on approach to production, and that shows here.

Opener 'Moment of Truth' quickly establishes a nice rubbery rhythm that locks you in. Bubbling melodies drift up top like tasing clouds while a melodic bassline rides up and down the sale to add to the subtle and supple sense of movement. It makes for a beautiful and hypnotic listen that is always evolving. The excellent 'Never Say Never' is a little less restrained, with crisp and driving drums making you move while all manner of synths bubble and gurgle away. Miniature melodic explosions light up the skies and keep you on edge while hints of acid appear from below to keep things engaging from start to finish.

These are two carefully crafted, long form grooves that are as cerebral as they are physical.

We know it. You know it. Alignment is here to stay. Delivering the next round of high quality tracks on vinyl for VN043, his „Orderly Chaos“ EP mirrors our suspicious times like nothing else but techno can. 

With its main title „Orderly Chaos“ consisting of well balanced leads chasing a never ending drum programming, the consistent kick drum does what its used to do: thumping your already vibrating stomach. An early classic already, with a reasoned arrangement attached. 

We’re about to enter quicker territories on A2 by the name of „Future Dancefloor“. Clearly focussed on satisfying the biggest sound systems around, once possible again. For the time being, a forward moving rhythm infiltrates small vocal hits on this one, piercing the perfect state of rave. 

„Into The Unknown“ follows this mantra perfectly. Detailed synth placements evolve a steadily riding hi-hat shuffle, incorporating the flowing drumming which comes with it. On top of it, energising pad lines do their thing in catching us during a perfect breakdown. 

Second b-side flip is „Dark Space“, with the name saying it all. A distinctively darker sound atmosphere is paired with modulated patterns, systematically pushing the groove underneath. It’s a next stage of production class, with harmonic elements driving one’s imagination further. A perfect closing for your next, physical music purchase.
