This project has been a long time in the making. Back in 2013 I did my first mainland tour with my sister Paula Fuga, opening for my favorite band, Groundation. We all quickly became great friends and shared many magical moments on that tour. It was an incredibly uplifting feeling to be so encouraged and supported by my musical heroes, to have them actually go out into the audience and watch our sets night after night. It’s a friendship that has lasted throughout the years, as we’ve crossed paths again and again on our journeys sharing our music around the world. 

Now, in 2022, I am overjoyed to announce The first single “Together“ off of the forthcoming EP of the same name, a collaborative project with the band Rising Tide, comprised of many of those same musicians that inspired me years ago, as well as the horn section and backing vocals from my band The Full Circle. This collaboration began with my dear brother Marcus Urani reaching out about a feature for a song on Rising Tide’s new album, and it worked so well we just kept going and it grew into a partnership. This music is so pertinent to the times that we are living in. Our hope is that it can bring much-needed healing, awakening and togetherness in a time so much controlled chaos, division and animosity. “Together“ drops on January 21.

Thompson Sound & Dubquake Records team up to offer modernised O.B.F versions of iconic roots and rubadub tracks from the last century. First released on the Jamaican singer and producer Linval Thompson's label, these tracks from the 70s and 80s have been reworked by Rico O.B.F himself. Each upcoming 12” will include a version with the original vocal, a dub version and a dub-poetry version by Nazamba.

First EP from this new collaborative series: a fresh version of Linval Thompson's "Curfew", a track originally released in 1980, recorded at the legendary Channel One studio and backed by the Roots Radics. In the late 1970s, political conflicts between the country’s two main political parties (JLP and PNP) were raging on the island. Criminal gangs worked hand in hand with political parties, urban warfare spewed on Kingston’s streets causing hundreds of deaths. Linval recalls the curfew sanctioned by the government and the police oppression felt by the people during this terrible period in Jamaican history.

Nazamba puts the chorus back into the present day on 'Curfew Drop' and looks back to a much more recent era with the worldwide curfews and lockdowns. Thompson Sound & Dubquake Records take us from the 80s to the 2020s with two major historical events, two curfews, two big tunes.

Thompson Sound & Dubquake Records s'associent pour proposer des versions modernisées façon O.B.F de plusieurs tracks emblématiques sorties au siècle dernier sur le label du chanteur et producteur Jamaïcain Linval Thompson ; des tunes roots et rubadub issues des 70s et des 80s retravaillées à partir des pistes originales par Rico O.B.F lui même. Sur chaque 12 inch à venir les labels promettent : une version avec le vocal original, une version dub et une version dub-poetry de Nazamba.

Premier maxi de cette nouvelle série collaborative : une toute fraîche version du « Curfew » de Linval Thompson, un track intialement enregistré en 1980 avec les Roots Radics au mythique Channel One studio. À la fin des années 70, de sérieux conflits opposant les deux principaux partis politiques de Jamaïque (JLP et PNP) font rage sur l'île. Du fait des liens étroits entretenus entre gangs et partis politiques, les rues de Kingston deviennent le théâtre d'affrontements quotidiens et les morts se comptent par centaines. Sur « Curfew », Linval évoque le couvre-feu alors imposé par le pouvoir, l’oppression exercée sur le peuple par les forces de l’ordre et l'armée durant cette terrible période de l'histoire jamaïcaine.

Sur « Curfew Drop » le dub poet Nazamba replace le refrain dans l'actualité et revient sur une époque bien plus récente avec des lyrics qui traitent des couvre-feux en lien avec la crise sanitaire récemment subis aux quatre coins du monde. Thompson Sound & Dubquake Records nous font faire un bond des années 80 aux années 2020 avec deux évènements historiques majeurs, deux big tunes, deux affaires de curfew.

Alpha Steppa is thrilled to announce the arrival of a truly unique and international release that is bound to enthral music lovers of every generation.
Alpha and Omega, true icons of the dub world have joined forces with son and nephew Alpha Steppa to create Dub Dynasty. The record, in the words of Alpha Steppa, is “an exploration of the unrelenting force of nature and the inspirational powers that brought us together to create this record.”

Taking inspiration from this credo, the title Unrelenting Force is a true reflection of the power and community that dub has mastered. Alpha and Omega and Alpha Steppa have called on their favourite collaborators from the UK, Ireland, South America, New York, Jamaica and South Korea to join with them in merging their pure, unadulterated dub into one of the deepest releases ever seen.

Alpha Steppa spent 2011/12 living and creating music in Asia, and he has been rewarded with some powerful connections in South Korea. For Unrelenting Force, he has called in Koonta, a member of Rude Paper and Korean reggae duo Koonta & Nuoliunce. Having worked with Alpha Steppa in Korea the pair’s previous collaboration is indicated with the smoothness and ease in which Eastern and Western styles are mixed. Another artist from Korea to feature on the release is up-and-coming melodica wunderkind Smiley Song. Featured here on the tracks Dub Dynasty and Warrior Song, Smiley proves that the roots sound is alive and well all over the world. Singing on Chicken and the Cow and the Buffalo and Goodness is N’Goni, one of the most exciting and mysterious new lyricists/singers to hit the scene. One of the most powerful tracks on the album is Monsoon Come, featuring the Dublin based South American singer Ras Tinny, this song is a true representation of the Dub Dynasty sound and is sure to surface as a single. Dub Dynasty is pleased to introduce these exciting new talents to the dub community and are certain a huge future awaits them.

Dub Judah, of Dub Jockey label fame, is one of the most respected names in UK Dub. His vocals on The Earth to It’s Original Form prove that old dub gods don’t die, they just get better and better. If you listen to dub and aren’t in awe of the name Linval Thompson, you aren’t listening hard enough. This iconic producer and singer has been making reggae since he was 20, playing with every major artist that ever passed through New York or Jamaica. A producer of over 40 albums, he is considered one of the essential contributors to reggae and its message in the 1970’s golden era. Featured here on the dub Long Time, Thompson’s vocals are as memorable as they are powerful. A taster of the full Linval Thompson release from Vibration Lab due for release next year.

Last but not least, Cian Finn contributes his unique blend of Celtic spirit and rootikal dub to 9 Years and Dub Island. Finn’s work as a member of Intinn saw the group named Best Upcoming Reggae act in the U.K and Ireland and he is renowned for his overwhelming positivity and insight into the principals of dub/reggae. Finn worked with Alpha Steppa on this year’s Moonshine Steppas release and the pair play off each other beautifully to create music that has a universal appeal and message.

The whole album is presented on limited edition 12" vinyl in a beautifully designed sleeve accompanied by a CD containing bonus mixes and dubs. This LP is powered by bass, the kind of bass that can reverberate through your whole body and lift you into another time and place.

Alpha Steppa i Alpha & Omega su u sklopu ovog projekta pozvali razna gostovanja iz cijelog svijeta što je rezultiralo čistim i neiskvarenim zvukom. Od gostovanja na ovom izdanju izdvajamo Koonta, člana korejskog dua Koonta & Nuoliunce, a gostuje i njegov sunarodnjak  Smiley Song, a tu je i južnoamerički pjevač Ras Tinny.
