Studiodue Future - Mixed by I-Robots

Italian artists I-Robots and Lorenzo LSP have put together two new mixes inspired by the legendary Turin club Studiodue, at which they were residents back in the 80s. The mixes feature an array of timeless deeptechno and eclectic electronic sounds from I-Robots' Opilec Music label, as well as one of his new and exclusive remixes.  Gianluca Pandullo, aka I-Robots, was a resident at the club - formerly a vintage cinema - from the late 80s until 1993 when it closed forever. At that time, Lorenzo LSP was also a DJ and one of the key party promoters. The club first opened in 1979 and soon became internationally renowned for its club nights, live concerts and events. It had a proudly eclectic sound that took in everything from disco, new wave, rare groove, acid, new beat and house to rock, hip hop, acid jazz, reggae, ska and dub.

The club was a foundational space for many in the city, championing black music and providing a safe space for people from the LGBTQ+ community. As a result, Studiodue became home to many vital promotions such as Lorenzo LSP (Latin Superb Posse)’s PopPlanet, House Train, Double Face and the I-Robots’ Sound Of Blackness Thursday. Over the years, many international stars visited, such as Ice-T, Todd Terry, Paul Weller, Frankie Knuckles,DJ Cash Money, Norman Jay, Pete Heller & Terry Farley, David Morales, Desmond Dekker and many more.

Studiodue helped shape several artists, including Lorenzo LSP and I-Robots, which is why the latter conceived this project and his Opilec Music label to mix up past and present influences and take them into the “Future”. 

The mix from I-Robots starts with an exclusive track that features an Italian vocal version of Kraftwerk’s ‘The Robots’ remade by Straker Commander and featuring Johnson Righeira. It’s a retro-future gem with glistening melodies and rugged arps and opens the release in authentic style. From there, the ensuing two hours take in raw analogue house, deep and soulful techno rollers, sleek minimal tracks, and percussive grooves packed with a Latin flair as well as so much more. It is a mix that very much joins the dots between then and now with music from Rhythim is Rhythim, Radio Slave, Kuniyuki Takahashi, Jordan Fields, Lello B., Danny Ocean, Federico Gandin and many more.

These two mixes are a perfect homage to one of Italy's most vital but sorely missed clubs.

Schrunzel is a self-taught multimedia artist and poet who casually creates Dadaist slogans such as „Waschbecken Power“ (Bassin Power) or "Schprampf um die Galaxis", the latter containing the word he created as a name for his very own music genre: Schprampf.

When he is not producing music or editing videos for it, Schrunzel dives deep into seemingly unconnected areas of study, physics and comparative religion, medieval Arabic and Danish poetry. Or he writes his science fiction novel, wherein he uses bizarre realism to articulate a critical analysis of today's society.

Running throughout this diverse range of works lies a central urge for independence. He refuses to buy or to be coerced into buying professional music production software, even though this means going down complicated paths in order to create music - the results of his highly idiosyncratic approach prove the merits of his philosophy. The variety of formats featured on this release reflects the diversity of Schrunzel's output, with a digital package comprised of songs and videos by Schrunzel and two remixes plus an edition of 12" Lathe Cut Vinyl limited to 30 copies.

Mostly a production demo to see what I can do with some techniques. It was never intended to be a full track.

I intend to have full drums recorded and vocals for this but that never materialised.

it features stuff such as sampling, music concrete, aggressive synths, lots of layered drums.

The track is in a almost finished state. It could use a little bit of tweaking but I am happy with this for now.
