Open Into Flame
 is a meditation, a prayer and a dance for personal and collective transformation. For the past month, I have been immersed in smoke from fires burning in the mountains to surrounding my home and from the hundreds of others burning nearby here in the Pacific Northwest of Canada/USA. The burning of entire towns, homes and livelihoods has moved me into tears and into deep reflection. What is our Earth Mother asking of us in this time? This music was chosen to tell the story of my own journey into this question. It's an invitation to open into your own flame and to support releasing, transforming and welcoming new beginnings. As Bība shares so eloquently in this mix, “It’s time for a change of skin. This shedding is underway. Snake shows us that this shedding is by fire. The skin burning away is a skin full of injustices, anger and violence. [The fire] is symbolic of moving away from the old ways and making way for the new. In these flames, our anger can now be seen, our shadow revealed by the glowing light. And in this fire now, it’s time to heal. At this time of great shedding, an energy channel is open- a line of light. This line of light is our lineage. Our path to awakening. This energy is open to all beings on earth to come into alignment with the unfolding mystery of our individual and collective evolution.”

This project took a very long time; from spending a few years writing and selecting the best tracks, to getting it pressed in the Netherlands and then awaiting its arrival to the USA… Many of you been waiting for this record to come out since I made a couple of rushed announcements in the past. Lots of tough circumstances were holding the release day back. 

Now we are here. I hope it was worth the wait. 

All the records are pressed and ready to be shipped to you. They look and sound crisp! Waiting period for shipping is no more than 4 weeks. Records will go fast, so make sure you get yours ASAP. I will put a little gift in every sleeve :) 

About the album: 
The Art of Distortion LP is a collection of eight bass-heavy compositions with moods varying from light, fairytale-esque & ethereal, to dark, melancholic & mysterious. All of the tracks are made with an emphasis on musicality, cinematic vibe, gritty bass and textural elements. This record is not as much about crazy sound-mangling techniques -though it’s still full of all sorts of ear-candies- but more about the musical story and atmosphere.

Records are pressed on 180gm heavyweight black vinyl with a full sleeve artwork and full color printed inner sleeve.

The Great Sky Lodge was recorded live on location as the sun set and the first stars appeared above Mato Tipila - Devil’s Tower, Wyoming USA. Sacred to the Northern Plains Tribes including Lakota, Kiowa, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Shoshone & Crow and known to the Lakota as Mato Tipila,  Bear Lodge, Mato Tiplia is considered the birthplace of wisdom and is connected to ancient star lore. It is the sacred place where the Lakota People first received the sacred C’anupa bundle from Pte-san win-yan, spiritual being White Buffalo Calf Woman.

White Buffalo Calf Woman’s teachings and message have traveled across vast oceans touching and awakening people of all nations and colours. Deya and her family visited Mato Tipila on pilgrimage July 2016.

“The ancient lava monolith towered above in the sky having just blazed gold in the setting sun. I sat at its feet, on the earth. The stillness seeped with eternity. The last things I remember as this song touched my lips was being able to hear the rock and mourning doves high up on the summit, the vortical spin of the land and the presence of unseen’s gathered around.  Then I disappeared. Into the timelessness, into the creation story. Riding the song, I found myself at a campfire in stars. As above so below. The information in this song is what followed…”

 Deya Dova acknowledges and pays respect to the Northern Plains Tribes, the Indigenous Custodians and respected Elders of this sacred land.
