Historically, society has always needed one form of tonic or another. Tonics invigorate, restore, refresh and stimulate; much like this group of rising stars with their eyes on the prize. We’ve trawled some of the finest up & coming UK talent that the scene has to offer and hand-picked 6-tracks to kick start our brand new VA series of EPs in ‘Tonics: Batch 1’.

Kicking off proceedings and returning for her first release on the imprint since the ‘Summer Soul EP’ in 2018, we gladly welcome back London producer Dushi, with a jazzy number titled ‘Lost In The Waves’. We’re greeted with wonderfully wide, warm strings and an almost Middle Eastern soundscape in the intro, followed by an uplifting, orchestral-style drop - complete with progressive, jungle percussion. 

London native Lally is second up to the plate, with a sun drenched, rolling scorcher titled ‘All The Time’ - a palpable amen dream of tumbling sub, twinkling bells and lush, longing vocals. This track marks his first official release, and if this is anything to go off, we’ll be seeing a lot more of him! 

Dorset resident & new kid on the block Vektah undoubtedly delivers on the title with his track ‘Request’. The tune opens with luscious, swirling synths which fast descend into honks of incoming bass, jungle breaks and ragga vocals which will almost certainly have you shouting at your nearest DJ, demanding them to “run it”.

Makah’s ‘Crest’ rides in like a seasoned surfer, the intro rhythmically building tension with bubbling textures and washing synths amid swinging yet techy breaks, screeches and boundless bass. The second debut on the project, this accomplished first outing means this Cornwall-born composer is definitely one to watch for 2021.  

The third and final newcomer is Brighton boy Silloh and his debut ‘Strange Matter’. The track opens with cascading, shimmering chimes and a slight air of unease. The drop kicks like a mule, boasting roaring grunts of bass, high velocity drums; all of which are sure to evoke some downright evil expressions in the rave! 

Finally, Manchester’s own Motiv calls for last orders with the deceptively titled ‘Crave’ a deep, warm hug of a half time tune. Complete with wide, wobbling pads and clicking percussion wrapped in hypnotic vocals, you’ll no doubt long to hear this track, like some sort of uncontrollable urge.

So get your orders in for 6 doses of the finest effervescent d&b that money can buy, and raise a glass to the next batch of bubbling talent, pouring into all good stores on the 21st of May 2021.

[A] SND - Everything:
Kicking off the EP is Russian producer SND, adding to his already impressive collection of releases with his latest vocal imprint, Everything. This track has a lively but mellow feel, which is achieved through the use of soft calming female vocals and atmospheric strings, complimented by an expansive bass line, to add to the sense of tranquility and setting the standard for the remainder of the EP.

[B] Mole - Set Me Free:
It's no secret that Prague has an immense Drum & Bass following & with this comes no shortage in emerging production talent, so continuing this trend is Czech producer Mole, presenting us with his bold vocal track Set Me Free. In this energetic track Mole begins with a contrasting serene approach to the intro. He manages this by using alluring vocals & enticing strings, before unleashing those sharp drums, distinctive percussion & a deep dominating bass line at a frequency that will be appreciated by any dance floor. 

[C] Redemptive - Within Nature:
Completing the EP in true style is Danish producer Redemptive launching his debut release Within Nature on NVR. This is a track of pure upbeat Liquid goodness with magical highs & soothing yet mystifying pads, expertly combined with a deep & driving bass line, to create this enchanting high tempo track. Just shy of 8 minutes long this epic masterpiece allows you to sit back & let the music take you on an all inspiring journey.

For NVR022 Nu Venture Records records welcome back Austrailian producer Tremah for an official catalogue release having previously featured on a free to download EP back in 2011, with his track Everyone. Having since developed his skills and progressed his signature sound Tremah presents us with seriously impressive deep 2 track release, Webs // Encounter.

[A] Tremah - Webs:
Opening this masterful release from Tremah, is Webs, a Deep Liquid Drum & Bass track with a contrasting high tempo yet relaxing and ambient vibe. Music for those in need

The ever-evolving situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic has undeniably caused high levels of uncertainty and apprehension across the globe, with the music industry being just one of many that has been hit hard by the crisis. We therefore wanted to do our bit to help.

‘A SINE of Relief’ is a compilation on our recently launched SINE Audio imprint that comprises of a broad selection of drum and bass from both new and established artists. We want to show how music can act as a sign of relief in otherwise rocky times, whilst also raising money for those that need it. Any proceeds from the album will be split between the two charities mentioned below, as well as any of the contributing artists that have lost income due to the situation.

Our charities: The NHS has been put under enormous strain at the moment, with staff and volunteers around the country working extreme hours to compensate for this, ultimately putting themselves at risk to help the most vulnerable. It therefore goes without question that we wanted to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

Additionally, with an array of mental health issues already affecting such a significant number of people, it is no surprise that the pandemic is having a worsening effect on this. Thankfully, we are living in times that people are learning to open up about these issues without stigma, something that can often be seen within the music industry itself. It was therefore important for us to include Mind as our second charity.
