Kickstarting the album with a delicate, soul-drenched liquid drum & bass soother is Hugh Hardie with his remix of original album influencer ‘Build A Better World (feat. Emer Dineen)’. Delving deeper into London Elek’s unique style and Emer’s synesthesic vocals, Hugh crafts heart-wrenching piano melodies and gorgeous rolling breakbeats injecting his signature flavours into the track.

With no clear indication of their true identity, the latest mystery to sweep across the world of drum & bass CLIQUES step up for an addictively feel-good remix of ‘The Prescription Is Love’. With a handful of releases on their own ‘Cliques Collective Audio’, the faceless artist(s) have already taken the scene by storm and their latest remix proves exactly why. Featuring a full live band, expect elevating brass outbursts, Philadelphia strings and blissful vocals.

Quickly gaining a reputation as one of the funniest characters within drum & bass, don’t be fooled by Mozey’s wit and charm. With a fast-growing catalogue of releases spanning labels including Souped Up, Liquid V, Bingo Bass, Serial Killaz and Hospital Records, Mozey’s bass-heavy remix of ‘Funkopolis’ draws upon the playful nature of the original whilst rolling it out into a fizzling drum & bass bouncer.

Legendary in-patient Logistics is on remix duties for ‘Never Trust A Hippy’. Incorporating the melodies and soundscapes from the original, Logistics soon flips the track on its head, turning it into a new-wave liquid funk anthem.

With further contributions from the likes of Think Tonk, Justin Hawkes, Lilac, Digital Native, Villem, Polaris, and a VIP from London Elektricity himself, the carefully curated tracklist brings together a cross-generational and multi-styled selection of artists from across the drum & bass community.

With the original album receiving support from the likes of Mixmag, Magnetic Mag and UKF, as well as being recorded in the immersive Dolby Atmos audio format, London Elektricity shows no signs of slowing down with his latest project. The longevity of his career can be owed to him being the mastermind behind classic Hospital albums including ‘Pull The Plug’, ‘Syncopated City’, ‘Are We There Yet?’ and ‘Yikes!’ (more recently revisited, remastered and repackaged this year as ‘Crikey!’) and London Elektricity continues to push the boundaries of drum & bass with over a quarter-century in the game.

London Elektricity - Possible Worlds (feat. Inja) (Digital Native Remix)

Bailey Greer and Josh Croft are names which should be commonplace in the mind of any self-respecting Souvent Records fan. The pair released their accomplished debut album ‘Voyager’ in 2020 and have since continued to perfect their own brand of smooth, sultry liquid collaborating with artists like Etherwood and Ruth Royall in 2021 as part of their ‘Cloud Nine’ EP. Their unique approach to d&b is further showcased in this gorgeous 2-track single, teaming up with the Jedi-wordsmith that is Visionobi on ‘Silhouette’ and showing off some synth-wizardry on ‘Android Funk’. 

‘Silhouette (feat. Visionobi)’ begins its life with soft harmonic textures and swirling pads, giving way to a rising bassline and rolling drums. Visionobi’s measured phrasing, calm delivery and reflective lyrics allow space for his words to paint the outline of rich mental images in the frontal cortex. These poignant verses sit alongside the bubbling arpeggio and ethereal vocal touches  that serve as a perfect call-and-response, allowing the stanzas to complete the picture. 

‘Android Funk’ on the other hand is classic In:Most, showcasing their love for intricate synth patterns and soundscapes. The dreamlike intro gives way to cascading, reverb-soaked tones, delicate vocal textures and a swelling bassline. On the drop, we’re treated to punchy drums and flavoursome flourishes across the board, with a switch-up mid-way through that will bring a wry smile and skank to even the moodiest of dances.  

Tying up this neat little package is the long-awaited release of Dustkey’s competition winning remix of ‘Glimmer (feat. Lucy Kitchen)’, taken from ‘Voyager’. This delightful reimagining blends soaring pianos with Lucy’s stunning vocal, heavy-hitting drums and warming, expansive bass - perfectly reframing the twinkle of the original!

Soulful drum & bass connoisseur and Goldfat Records head honcho, Mitekiss is ready to make his mark with his highly anticipated second studio album ‘Bolivian Hotel Bistro’, on Hospital Records. Consisting of 16 delicately crafted masterpieces, expect a fusion of his signature liquid-jazz style with a versatile set of influences spanning house, garage, ambient and minimal tempos, as he brings in a range of exciting new talent including Vonné, Emiko, Duskee, Ruth Corey, B-ahwe, Milo Merah, Pixie Cola and gürl.

The dreamlike ‘Sophie’s Tale’ will send listeners into a deep state of liquid lusciousness. Mitekiss provides immersive synth work and mesmerising reversed piano chords that are perfectly complemented by Milo Merah’s majestic vocals. You’ll also be able to find Milo’s vocals on ‘River So Deep’, following on from the successes of ‘City Angels’ released in 2020, featuring fellow up-and-comer d.e.o.n, that garnered support from the likes of LSB, Shy FX and DJ Ron.

Embracing his love for jazz and soul, ‘Losing Sleep’ is a deep drum & bass anthem featuring the stunning vocals of Vonné who is no stranger to laying down classics alongside Mitekiss, following ‘Matter’ which the pair released back in 2020. Expect jungle-esque breakbeats, heartfelt piano chords and a subtle but dangerous 808.

Switching up the style, album title track ‘Bolivian Hotel Bistro’ sees Mitekiss draw for a wildcard as he ventures into the higher tempo realms of house and techno. Made up of enticing pads and techno-inspired arps, there isn’t a sound that Mitekiss can’t conquer.

‘Droplets’ warms the soul with playful chimes that send tingles down the spine, skippy drumwork and a jazz-inspired bassline. Mirroring the sounds of raindrops, Mitekiss takes us on a sombre sonic journey accompanied by Leeds-based vocalist B-ahwe’s enticing harmonies.

Other notable moments on the album include his garage infused banger ‘Flep’, orchestral breakbeat masterpiece ‘Falling In Reverse (feat. gürl)’, as well as previously released singles ‘Mortala (feat. Emiko & Duskee)’ and ‘Seventeen (feat. Pixie Cola)’.

RTX ENIGMA - IF SHE DIES

A Long Time Ago

New Zealand based nice guy Monika and American graphic designer and cat enthusiast Akuratyde have teamed up again, with their first efforts of 2021 resulting in this inviting 2-track offering. The transpacific pair have developed an unlikely friendship through the combined parallels of drum & bass and the internet over the last few years, with their first contact appearing on Monika’s ‘Himalaya’ in 2018. Autumn 2020 saw a 4-track outing on Fokuz Recordings, and the duo are further building on this newfound sound with more releases lined up in the coming months, much to our delight. With a sublime supporting cast, strap in for a punchy pair of tracks that will ignite their 2021 schedule. 

On ‘Haunted (feat. Oktae)’ the pair team up with frequent collaborator Oktae. Her calming, relaxed tone and conversational writing style bring a very inviting element to the track. The duo have cultivated warm sonics and chiming tones to provide a perfect platform for the British vocalist. 

For the B-side ‘Soul On Fire (feat. Askel & Elere)’ they linked up with Finnish family in the form of Askel & Elere. Any self respecting Soulvent fan will undoubtedly be familiar with these newly signed Scandinavians. The resulting track combines emotionally charged lyrics along with a churning, warped bassline and fully fledged breaks. This 4-way international link up delivers an interesting blend of influences and textures, that brings out the best of the full quartet. 

This eerie yet melancholic 2-track match up is available in all good stores from the 19th March 2021.
