Liquiform Showcase Series Drop 50: Danox

After a short hiatus, our Showcase Series returns with Bristol based, Neuro focused DJ & Producer - Mutagen.

It was only a dozen years into his journey on our sphere before Rhys uncovered the glowing canvas of Drum & Bass. Although kick-starting his underground palette with Jungle, Rhys eventually found his way to the darker side of DnB through hearing the work of Ed Rush & Optical, Noisia and Scottish duo - Konflict. 

“Not the first but Noisia - Diplodocus was probably the most influential track of my life.”

Holding residencies for Toxictek and K-tek Soundsytems, calling upon his alias Mutagen - the dBs Bristol student has sets at Bristek and Money Madness under the belt too. 

A combination of Hip-Hop, Heavy Metal, Tekno & Hardcore is responsible for creating a unique synthesis of influences which Rhys cleverly exploits in his own music. The output of Eatbrain, Blackout and Virus Recordings also play a big role in the techniques Rhys incorporates. Obscure sound design and clean mixdowns are the main focus when it comes to Production coupled with heavy and experimental styles.

With tracks forthcoming on cardinal labels - Korsakov, Beast Music and two others which are under wraps for now, it’s no doubt Mutagen is a name you can expect to hear a lot about this year.

Rolling in to the Spring of 2020, our fourth year of supporting aspiring artists in our Drum & Bass scene. 

This week we welcome another North East based artist - Regent! 

A few words from the man himself...

"Originally from Surrey although I've been living in Newcastle Upon Tyne since 2014, having watched the Bass Music scene grow exponentially since then. I started DJ'ing when I first landed in the North East but not until recently did I really start taking the art seriously which is strengthened with a desire to play in clubs. I think it is amazing the way the DnB scene has grown and the variety of talented artists rising from the North East, especially the minimal side. Local artists like Stompz, Skantia and Nectax have really been blowing up and its been sick to see them evolve. 
I’ve opened for Cajama at Rush events and have supported Turno, Distinkt and Sammy Virji."

Liquiform Showcase Series Drop 34: Decaz

Brighton based artist, Cadence is known for her trademark style which mainly focuses on the dark, rolling, more technical side of drum and bass. This comes from influences from Artists such as Philth, Kyrist & The Sauce along with labels such as Sofa Sound, Flexout & Dispatch.

Having been involved in the local drum and bass scene for a number of years, Cadence only started her djing journey in the summer of 2019. In that time she’s become well known in the Brighton music scene and has become resident to some of the bigger local events; such as Multifunction, Motive & Strategy.

"Originally from the Midlands, I went to my first raves in Birmingham back in about 2002 and have been obsessed with DnB ever since. I spent a lot of years partying around the South West of England and have been Bristol based for the last 18 years. "Jump up/dark d'n'b/jungle DJ from the highlands of Scotland, I've had the pleasure of playing many various exciting places over the years and I'm constantly looking forward to the next thing. Found in a bothy in the middle of nowhere shaking the rafters with all sorts of jump up naughtiness and the rest is history! Made my club debut in Studio 24 last year, and have gone from strength to strength, winning Metragnome's mix competition, playing a collection of festivals from AudioSoup, Elements, Solfest and Shenanigans and a myriad of outdoors gigs and club nights including Cenote Sounds, Kronik, Too Fast Too Honkin, AberBoomTique, Open Your Mind and Mains Tek Castle Party. I've shared line ups with crazy talented people such as Mandidextrous, Rumble in the Jungle, Kaotik Kartel, Slamboree, Phibes, WBBL, Cenote Sounds, Jamin Nimjah, Lowgrade, Ziggy Gee, Mrs Magoo, Mr Traumatik, Metragnome, Oh My Josh, DemMan Productions, Honkin HiFi, Sir Skanksalot and many many more. Liquiform Showcase Series Drop 38: Zo Down Lo

DJ Komatose is a Birmingham Based Drum 'n' Bass DJ & Producer. He first started mixing in 2004, aged 14, spinning vinyl on a pair of decks bought from Argos. While he may not have been plugged into the scene much over the last 10 years, he’s been quietly perfecting his craft behind closed doors and is now ready to showcase it to the world.

Music;

DJ Komatose’s style is reflected in both his mixes and his productions, having a tendency to focus on high energy and tearing basslines that could best be described as a mix of Jump Up and Neurofunk. Over the years he has had releases on Special Records, Transmission Audio, and Hi-Density Records, with more in the pipeline for 2020.

Inspiration;

Heavily inspired by the early Jump Up days of the late 2000s, the likes of Original Sin, Taxman, Jaydan were abundant in DJ Komatose's record collection. The turning point was when Noisia released Stigma; after that, his style morphed into more of the techy side of DnB while still including an element of Jump Up energy.

One of the coldest work rates in the Bonnie Lands, Metropolis head honcho and Bloc2Bloc resident - Prolifix rolls through for the first of his two features. 

The brain behind Metropolis Scotland, Founder & Resident DJ Prolifix is one of Scotlands new up and coming DJ's fresh off the press. In the mix in clubs since 2017, and a regular name throughout Edinburgh and Glasgows DnB scene’s Prolifix has shown himself as one to watch. Resident for Bloc2bloc Entertainment Radio since 2019, Prolifix has been trying to spread his roots further afield and play stages all over the country.

I'm a DJ and up and coming Producer and music enthusiast. I've been playing for 16 years, originating in old skool garage, dnb and jungle. My love for music originated with my dad playing Reggae, dancehall and mo-town, before introducing me to pirate radio, and from there the rest is history. Playing under Smallzie as a youngster I made my name locally in (Croydon) and started to play in local bars and clubs before getting bookings further out. most recently you would of seen me playing in Canvas Watford with Jungle Fusion also Fire and Lightbox and at Electric in Brixton for the Great Ormand Street fundraiser.

Like most, I started out in the bedroom with my first set of gemini xl500's, but since then I have built my own studio and I am currently running my gunz-e audio station on Facebook live. Gunz-e audio is something new that I'm building and want to showcase all styles of dnb. Over the last year I have been working very hard mainly on sound quality and stream quality but since that has all been put in place I'm very happy to say that the guest are coming through the door and keeping the levels in the room very high, which has been a very good look. 2020 is going to be a big year for the show and I want to help showcase new talented Dj's and producer.

Our 45th release comes from Manchester with rising Artist - krolla 

Hailing from Manchester, krolla, a.k.a Ellis Cullen, is a new DJ looking to burst onto the scene after finding a love for DnB through club nights, raves and festivals after initially attending the Void nights at Joshua Brooks in his early university days. From here, it became apparent providing the vibes were more appealing than just the raving and in turn a ridiculous amount of spare time during the COVID-19 lockdown gave Ellis time to begin mastering the craft of disc jockeying and, more recently, he became a part of the up and coming Ukiyo Cultural crew. With many WIPs soon to be completed with knowledge of music production gained through working with bands for many years, krolla will be hoping to drop some original music in the rave in due time.
