Eluvium – or Portland, Oregan’s Matthew Robert Cooper – isn’t one to shy away from big concepts. The ambient/neoclassical composer’s new album ‘(Whirring Marvels In) Consensus Reality’ is inspired by ontological relativism, a way of thinking said to be behind intelligence-mimicking tech such as AI and psyche-predictive algorithms. However, the mix he’s put together to celebrate its release, weaving together Aphex Twin, David Byrne, John Cage and many more, has been created using the kind of instinctive genius no machine could, we suspect, ever learn. Enjoy it now, before the robots rise, would be our advice.

One Hour with The Stars of the Lid

Beck recently collaborated with Jack White to release a new single on Third Man. The 7″ features the new tracks “I Just Started Hating Some People Today” and “Blue Randy.” White produced both songs, playing drums on the latter and adding “punk vocals” to the former. “I Just Started Hating Some People Today” begins as an old-school country jaunt that suddenly switches up into hardcore punk, and becomes a funky porno groove at the end.
