Tidelines return with a new EP of sensual, shimmery electronic lead r’n’b.

The South East London girl boy duo made up of Niomí Eve and Kailin draw influences from both sides of the Atlantic—including Arca, Night Slugs, and American R&B singers like Tinashe and Cassie.

“Dream” follows their debut EP “Say My Time”; a gorgeous debut which went on to win over early adopters and key tastemakers, the online chatter about Tidelines intricate electronic pop posited them as London’s latest emerging alt-pop stars. New EP “Dream” matches the shape and surreal outline of reality that our subconscious can take on. First track “How To Love Me” is drenched in layers of sound and skittering electronica, but it’s also a gorgeous and majestic pop song beneath the surface. Niomí’s velvety vocals slide through the mix, while the synths themselves seem to wheeze and soar.

The duo met by chance in London. Claiming to be complete opposites in so many ways - from musical differences to the way they see the world - they named themselves Tidelines, which describes the debris formed when two bodies of water meet. 

Both born in London but raised in different parts of the world - from Bejing (Kailin) to Ireland (Niomi) - they also bring a synthesis of cultures to their music. The EP is soft and ethereal, but with darker simmering undertones that twist and turn, reflecting the duo’s conflicting natures.

“Lying”, the second track on the EP juxtaposes dense, unsettling production with softly sung vocals about pain and heartbreak. Whereas title track “Dream” offers an experimental angularity with it’s twinkling waves and club-leaning production.

Tidelines - How To Love Me

Kedr Livanskiy is Russian for Lebanese Cedar. 

The sinister synths in Sgoraet (English: Burning Down) are inspired by the otherworldliness of Russian winter; Russia in winter is a terrible thing, but it also has a strange romantic presence to it. The drum and bass coda emulates the feeling of impending death and transition to another state when winter is over one's shoulder. 

Kedr on growing up in Russia and the influence that had on her music: 
"Of course the big problem was perpetual drunkenness—people would drink themselves to death. I was born on October 4, 1990. It was a very interesting but critical time for Russia—a time of great change. The Soviet Union was no more, and old values were anathematized because of the reconstruction.

In my early teens no one seemed to understand me in this world (I thought), so I read Washington Irving novels and listened to The Cure. At around 20 years old I felt a real need to find myself, so I entered the directing department of the Moscow School of New Cinema. At the same time, electronic music fascinated me completely.

A small circle of my friends formed around a mutual interest in music. We always went to concerts together, of which were mostly international artists: Inga Copeland, DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad, Legowelt, Death Grips, Florian Kupfer, Dean Blunt, etc. It wasn’t long until we organized the community and DIY record label known as John’s Kingdom. It’s not only about music; it’s also a channel for art, videos and lifestyle. Now it’s the most alive and honest thing in Moscow.

My music is strongly inspired by Autechre, Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, but with the lyrics and mood of Mazzy Star. I admire contemporaries Inga Copeland and Laurel Halo, however, my songs are more pop-leaning because of the powerful influence MTV had on my adolescence."

Russian producer Vasily Skobeev’s recording alias, Åmnfx – an abbreviation of the phrase “amen to FX” – alludes to the transformative power of multi-effects on devotional music. The album Moscow Beat will be out on infamous LA imprint 100% Silk and ranges from moody memory house to wintry minimal tech-dub to wavy rhythm deliriums. "In the cafe" with its piano chords and deep stuff evokes classical ambient house and sounds just like an another story of meditative chilling, but it sounds so good! Release date March, 24 2017. Amen to that.
