And I just keep tripping on how weird it is that so few people see the US empire's headlong charge into cold war conflict with two separate nuclear-armed nations as the single most urgent concern of our day. It probably doesn't even make most people's top ten. Very few people seem to believe the most pressing threat to humanity might be all those armageddon weapons we've been stockpiling and how increasingly irresponsibly our leaders are treating them.

Erm I Know You're Busy But Nuclear War Is Getting Increasingly Likely

Charles Bukowski has a quote: “We're all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn't. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.”

Terrorized and flattened by trivialities, eaten up by nothing. I think about this quote a lot not just as pertains to the inevitability of our individual deaths, but to the looming death of the entire world.

We're Sleepwalking Into Nuclear War

To have a healthy world we're going to have to metamorphose into a species which is not driven by fear and greed and us-versus-them othering. Which doesn't see my own suffering as meaningfully separate from the suffering of my neighbor. Which doesn't see the struggles of a population on the other side of the planet as meaningfully separate from the struggles of the population on this side of the planet. Where we collaborate with each other and our ecosystem instead of competing and killing and exploiting and destroying.

This is the humanity that's trying to be born.

There's a whole, whole lot of future ahead, and if we play our cards right we're going to get to be a part of it. If we survive to see that future, humans will look back upon the stretch of history as we know it today as a kind of embryonic stage in our development. Where an animal species not unlike any other evolved a lot of brain mass in a fairly short time but still hadn't shed the fear-based kill-or-be-killed survival impulses of its evolutionary ancestors, so there was a confused, chaotic transition phase between animal life and true humanity.

Eyewitness Ethiopia: US Media Lies About Tigray War w/ Rania Khalek & Eugene Puryear

I think it would be a lot more efficient and straightforward if all English-language news media were just run directly out of CIA headquarters by agency officials in Langley, Virginia. This way news reporters could eliminate the middleman and drop the undignified charade of presenting unproven assertions by western intelligence agencies as "scoops" that they picked up from "sources".

I mean, right now the mass media are churning out stories about "intelligence" which says Vladimir Putin has decided to invade Ukraine very soon, citing government officials and anonymous sources. We are never shown the "intelligence", and we are never shown any evidence of its veracity; we're simply told what opaque and unaccountable government agencies want us to believe about a foreign government. We're not even reminded by the publishers of these CIA press releases that western intelligence agencies have a very extensive history of lying about exactly this sort of thing, and we're certainly not informed that Kyiv appears to be ramping up aggressions in eastern Ukraine.
