To mark their 15 years in the business, Robsoul are releasing a special anniversary compilation, which will be let loose in 3 parts during August. Each part will concentrate on different period from the label, Part one features the early releases from 1999 – 2004, Part two covers 2005 – 2009 while the final instalment brings us right up to date covering 2010 – 2014. Each volume is handpicked and mixed with love by Phil Weeks, with the tracks also being available for individual download.

Phil Weeks presents Robsoul 15 Years Vol.2 (2005 - 2009)

Well we said some time ago that the next mix in the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast would be from one of the many talented female DJs in Washington DC, and we've been waiting patiently for one of the ladies to step up to the plate. We're pleased to bring you this great mix from DJ Meegs, a familiar face on the DC underground scene.  Over to Meegs to tell us a bit about herself and her mix:

"Growing up in a large, loud & musically inclined Irish-American family I guess you could say my interests have revolved around social gatherings fueled by music & dancing since birth. My parents enrolled me in Irish dancing when I was four & shortly thereafter we began hosting weekly Irish music lessons at our house for over a decade. My first instruments were the tin whistle & the bodhran (Irish drum) so I danced & played competitively while performing up & down the East Coast until college when, finally and gratefully, I was introduced to electronic music. 

After graduation I moved to the West Coast (LA) where, alas, I heard the sweet, sweet sounds of Deep House music. I became a local fixture at Marques Wyatt's 'DEEP' parties & since then my love affair with deep, soulful, melodic music with thumping bass lines has been one of the few constants in my life. Over the next 10 years I submerged myself in the scene as a dancer, promoter, percussionist, event producer & after Burning Man 2006, a DJ. After leaving LA I spent a year in New Zealand hosting a show on Radio Ponsonby before coming home to DC.

These last couple of years have brought about a lot of great change or evolution in the music industry from the type of technological gear that is available, to the fusion & birth of new genres. I try to embrace the technology which has done me well considering I was hard-pressed differentiating an RCA cable with an extension chord when I first considered becoming a DJ! And of course my "record bag" consists of more than just the deep, soulful, tribal house that initially had me smitten. However, tracks with a driving beat, walking bass-lines, melody and lyrics with emotional content that THUMP will always get heavy rotation, as you will hear in this mix. 

As a recent convert to Traktor which offers a seemingly limitless amount of options for getting creative with the music, I used Traktor Pro 2 software, Kontrol Z1 w/a built-in soundcard for my mixer, Kontrol X1 for sound FX & loops, 2 standard decks & 2 remix decks. Most of the mix incorporates all 4 decks, It ain't perfect, but it sure is fun!! Hope you enjoy!"

For episode #15 of the DC House Grooves Meet The Locals Podcast we've got a very special mix from a very special DJ. Sarah Myers has long been involved in the underground house music scene here in DC, as a promoter with Life, as a DJ, and as curator of the regular Hooked podcast. Having played as far and wide as New York, Burning Man, Barcelona and Ibiza, Sarah is a resident DJ at Flash DC, and can also be found lighting up dance floors and underground parties across the country.  Over to Sarah for a few words about the mix:

Igor Lisboa is originally from the city of Lisbon capital of Portugal, considered and appreciated for being the Mecca of electronic music of all kinds. At 16 he already borrowed the paths of the underground clubs of Lisbon. He learns a lot of DJ he has the opportunity to listen and observe for several years and developed a huge passion for electronic music. Igor has also forged in the middle of the Goa-Trance and it was in 2002 that he began learning to mix on turntables. During 7 years he traveled in Europe residing in several countries such as Spain, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, where he will discover other cultures and styles. In 2011 he puts his suitcases in Mulhouse and 3 years later he founded his Label US MUSIC. During this period he created the concept evenings BLACK CAT in Mulhouse where he managed to find for lovers of electronic music this city has real potential for underground partys

Dj born in 1988 in Ferrol (Galicia, Spain). Its highest devotion is funk, jackin 'Chicago house and a style mixer intense, dynamic, technical, based on tricks, track sets and effects, combining techniques like scratching and turntablists beatjugling in their blends due to its roots of hiphop.
His sessions have been played on American radio stations like Chicago House FM (Minneapolis) and Phillynitesradio (Philadelphia), in addition to developing other sets no less important for other groups of underground culture and record labels like "Little Routine Series" (France), "Reason2Funk Records "(United Kingdom)," in Da House Cast "(Chile)," Select Music "and the great" House Salad "(both of Mexico). In Spain also has podcast "12 inch", "Uyeney records", "Magnetic NetLabel" and the website "www.djsonline.es".
It also has shared the bill at some clubs of his region with artists the likes of Gayle San, Christian Smith, Joseph Capriati, etc ... It is currently developing in the world of production to create their own sound.
