Curiosity led me to start attending it soon after. Eventually, I joined the minimal.lt team and have been traveling with them for 10 years now. Minimal Mondays was the event where I debuted as a DJ. Marsinah worked in a clock factory. She was a working class hero: she frequently led industrial strikes, and due to this, was murdered in 1993 under the brutal dictatorship of Soeharto’s regime. This piece is meant as an hommage, as a tribute to names excluded from official history.


The title is taken from Sapardi Djoko Damono’s poem, “Dongeng Marsinah” (english: “Marsinah’s Tale”). 


Marsinah, the transcendental clock,

ticking ceaselessly

weaving transience

eternally:

“we do not demand much,

only a decent life,

a grain of rice.”


The sound of the upper range of the pianos is reminiscent of clock sound. Percussions too: woodblocks, bongos, and congas. Inhabiting the clock-like timbre is an extremely limited pitch collection, repeated over and over, perpetually slowing down: a claustrophobic space. Yet, as the piece slows down, it increases in density, as if opening up a possibility of a Messianic arrival. Such an advent would mark the redemption of the dead generations.

Marsinah's Pendulum (for two pianos and percussion)

Bringing you a new mix from neko.ea, a boundary-pushing artist with roots in Indonesia and a base in Melbourne (AU). Known for immersive sets that blur the edges of techno, ambient, and experimental sound, she treats the dancefloor like an open canvas. Trained in architecture and drawn to deep sonic worlds, her approach is spatial, textural, and emotionally charged.

Expect warped percussion, vast atmospheres, and a steady momentum that pulls you through shifting inner terrains.

Kenya presents her new debut EP for Talking Machine after joining the label crew in 2024, titled Fractal Vision. The EP consists of 3 tracks, accompanied by 2 remixes by Anatolian Weapons and Arvin Fajar. The EP itself narrates about a journey through emotion and experience, capturing the essence of growth, introspection, and transformation, one that creates a dynamic landscape. From every track, it is something that developed naturally through the textures and layers of the sound it self, create something that feels like telling a story through sound.

The EP starts off with Transfer Your Energy with steady bassline that knocks the track gently, keeping the listener on the ground. The dreamy bells that surrounds the track make an important role to the mood, chased by distort sound and noise with on the bridge, an intense acidic layers and synths with high hat that gives house feels to build up the energy itself, caving your ears until it stops.

For the second track is Turbulence, a mid tempo track that gives a sense of hypnotizing along the track, with modulated bassline, atmospheric pads with long decay and subtle granular processing, sporadic high-resonance synth fills for dynamic contrast, and dissonant high-register minor stabs for tonal tension, complemented by organic flow, and stabilized by a classic kick drum for foundational weight.

For the ending, Fractal Vision, an uptempo journey driven by a groovy bassline and some bittersweet background synths to give the sense from the EP itself, layered with snare fills that clash playfully against a trashy front snare, while dual harmony synths intertwine to trigger the emotion, all subtly underscored by a spoken words that deliver thematic messaging without disrupting the momentum.

A transforming beast of a track, it mutates into an intense, acidic bassline-driven force, layered with glitchy electronic synths that guide the listener through a turn-around journey—an invitation to both dance and pause. Smart sequencing sustains tension, building an immersive bridge for a heavy-hitting drop. A short-decay, raw yet polished snare knocks from the back, with mid-tone percussive textures subtly shaping the groove. Perfectly placed hats charge the atmosphere unconsciously—injecting housey. Near the close, a spoken message adds deeper meaning—a final treat before the sound disappears into the ether.

A trance-style synth melody gradually builds up with an opening filter, increasing energy and creating a festive, euphoric vibe—like an outdoor rave. A steady rhythm and acid-style effects swirl in the background, adding depth. As the track progresses, a layered melody slowly emerges, staying strong and steady. A deep bassline quietly supports everything, giving the track a solid foundation. Crisp hi-hats shape the rhythm, making room for key vocal moments that draw the listener in. All the sounds come and go smoothly, keeping the flow tight and intentional.

DJ MO)))DARA - SENANDUNG PENGENTAS JEMURAN

Little is known about this freaky duo whose sound straddles opposing polarities, merging organics and synthetics, joining traditional textures with futuristic finish. These are sample-licious tracks that also feature original vocals and raw analog synths. They are noisy but clean, rough but smooth, soft AND crunchy.  

On one hand, it's mad-cap multicultural disco funk as on Si Jambo (translated loosely as 'ALL GOOD') and 2Tac Onana, and on the other it's cybernetic weirdness and italo-inflected electro with 'Non-Binary Joys on the Venus Holodeck' and 'Czary Mary,' which sounds like it could be the flip-side to Sharivari.  

In between this binary divide is 'Something For the Mind,' a brilliant piece of pop music that springs lightly into your brain with catchy bleeps, incredible vocoder, and a beat guaranteed to get the braindance party started.

This track is made by me as part of "KLOUT" project. We are: Arum Dayu, Hannah Ekin, and Ayash (me). KLOUT is a fictional music group for "See The Grid, Feel The Gig" (an experimental performance project initiated by my friend, Arum Dayu, as one of the artist in residence at Cemeti - Institute for Art and Society). She is interested in observing and making various experiments about the relation between human and gadgets that already embedded in our everyday lives.
