I had the great privilege of collaborating with my dear friend (and incredibly epic human) Loretta “Draegan” Laurin on the music for their Bass Flow Yoga workshop at Bass Coast 2022. The workshop took place in the Slowtempo space, which turned out to be my favourite stage at the festival, and I am really happy with how the mix came together.

Loretta has over 13 years of teaching experience in embodiment (yoga, dance, pilates, fitness) and social justice education. They host an annual retreat at Hollyhock on Cortes Island, and are working towards a Masters in Counseling Psychology. 22.10.29 - little.fiery.one - Parade Of Lost Souls: Galactic Disco

For the second consecutive year I had the great privilege and joy of collaborating with my dear friend Lo on a movement workshop for Bass Coast, with our workshop taking place on Saturday afternoon at The Cabin stage. This set was performed live, in sync with Lo's facilitation with the aim of working through a variety of tempos, genres and energy levels. I am so grateful for all who joined us, and for Lo's invitation to build this together. I am so happy with the resulting mix and I truly hope that it may end up contributing to your movement/embodiment practice. 

Workshop description: 
Get your energy moving with a delicious, full-body dynamic movement practice! Enjoy bassy flowing sequences with inspiration from Vinyasa Yoga, then turn it up with some sweaty dance-fitness. Then we ground it back down, touch into a bit of core strengthening, and top it off with an easeful and relaxing stretch. With a live DJ set flowing through a range of ambient to bassy and danceable beats, this session invites you to connect to community and yourself as you get a full body tune-up and tune-in. Bring a yoga mat if you can!

Facilitators Biographies:

Lo (they/she) is a lover of movements and thrives in the juicy space where art meets activism. With 14 years of teaching experience, they are trained in a range of embodiment modalities including yoga, pilates, dance, and fitness. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to share this set for a movement/yoga workshop, created in collaboration with my dear friend Lo (Loretta Laurin, they/she) for this year's Bass Coast. This was our third year getting to be a part of the festival, this time back at the Slowtempo stage on Friday at 1pm.

Workshop description:
Rest and recharge your batteries! Get your bass treatment while enjoying guided mindful movement and stretching. Based on gentle hatha and yin/restorative yoga, this easeful and breath-infused session will give you the space you need to ground and rejuvenate. A live DJ will weave deep sonic serenity into the practice, guiding you into restorative bassy bliss. The practice will be choice-based, body-neutral, and accessible to a range of bodies and abilities.

24.07.12 - Bass Coast 2024 - Bass Bliss Yoga

I created this set for Dance Temple Edmonton, with the aim of creating a set of 'dance' music that purposefully engages with grief. At the time I was feeling incredibly heartbroken about the genocide in Gaza, as well as so many other horrors spreading across the world, and I wanted to try and create a set of music to inspire some amount of catharsis, while also purposefully challenging the dancers present via the use of more chaotic and experimental selections / mixing. Honestly I think it is one of the best sets I have ever created and it seemed to land very well with the attendees of the event.

The final track of the set is from an incredible album of field recordings from Gaza, this track recorded on the Gaza coastline. At this time I have no idea if the artist who made the album is still alive (I hope so). #FreePalestine 

Prior to the set, I shared a poem on grief written by a dear friend: 

Loving Grief by Joy Love

It is said that grief is love with nowhere to go*, 
but-
what if grief is the consummation of love?

Because love, at its core, is incorporeal.
It needs no particular being or place to "go."

It could be said that grief is merely love continued.

Love's eternal form; its finality.
It asks nothing in return- has no body or occasion.

Naturally, by loving, we are thus investing in future grief.

Then, the time comes, and we are opened up,
torn apart and raw with disbelief.
Simultaneously numb and overwhelmed, 
drowning in quiet tears- shedding all we thought we knew.

And eventually, what remains is the truth that always was.
Love, for love's sake, just because.

This is a live recording of my set for the opening of Dance Temple Edmonton's 2025 Winter Season. A set I created to be more chill than some of the more hype-y Dance Temple sets I have created, I wanted to play around the concepts of the changing season, the emerging light of a new year, and also engage in some delving into some of the more challenging emotional landscapes that have been brought about by world events.

This set was put together for The Cosmic Lullaby Series [https://www.facebook.com/thecosmiclullabyseries] which is an ongoing online DJ series created to support mental health and soothe the soul with a wide variety of downtempo and ambient soundscapes featuring live-streamed and recorded mixes from various artists around the globe.

This set which was created for and performed as part of Inshala 12 - 'The Unknown' on June 27th, 2020 [http://www.inshala.ca/]. I was so honoured to be a part of Inshala's weekend of online programming, and was (I believe) my 4th time performing at the festival -- which is one of my favourite gatherings. I also created a score of visuals to go along with the performance which was streamed via Twitch, from 5-6pm. I aimed to build the energy throughout the set, well offering a variety of healing sounds. I am incredibly pleased with the results and hope you enjoy.

20.06.27 - Inshala - The Unknown

Created for the 'Constellations SIX - Winter Solstice Celebration' online streamed event by Evolved Productions & Inshala Festival, on December 19th, 2020. The event featured dj sets as well as dance performances from artists across Canada as well as Germany. I was thrilled to be a part of the evening which was a truly special online gathering. 

The set was designed to delve into the expanses and constrictions, the darkness and light, of this past year and my hope was for the journey to be a cathartic experience for listeners. 20.12.19 - Constellations Six - Solstice

Since their humble beginnings at a community radio station in 2003, little.fiery.one has been exploring the craft of mixing music with an ear for unique, beautiful, ambitious and experimental sounds. Punctuated with a variety of genres and styles little.fiery.one's sets aim to help create warm, open and explorative dancefloors that invite dancers deep into their dance. 

A trans/genderqueer 3rd generation settler, they currently reside and dance upon Treaty 6 territory, within the traditional territories for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Métis, Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuline (Dene), Nakota Siou (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and many others. 

As someone deeply invested in dance in its many forms, they have helped shape dancefloors at a variety of festivals gatherings, ecstatic dance events, and house parties.
