The fourth Applied Magic release comes courtesy of Komenda, two alluring Süßboys from the flatlands of the North German Plain.

All tracks are unique in their own little way, just like the minds that created them. A manifestation of the idea that art must constantly move forward, that there are still new ideas and uncharted territories out there. You just have to seek them out.

Tunno could be best described as the sound of a dying dial-up modem, sending stuttering morse code to the depths of interplanetary space. Reminiscent of 90s bleep sound, warped and filtered through a prism of contemporary, cutting edge dance music.Guaranteed goosebump material!

356 really has its own pulse. 5 to the floor, straight yet broken, an everchanging, perpetually repeating mantra that just sticks in your head and never leaves you again. An unlikely earworm if you just let it catch you.

French hypertalent INVŌKER's remix for Tunno takes the original and wraps it up in a warm and cozy blanket. Classic Detroit pads meet a colorful, almost Balearic sound design with the monochromatic, angular original melody still shining through, transporting it from outer space to outside - somewhere near the beach.

The whole package is topped off with an artwork by David Kochs, who is not only a singular producer and DJ but obviously a really good designer as well.

Toolroom founder and Grammy-nominated producer Mark Knight announces his new album Untold Business: 13-track collection of vocal house music which aims to inject a much-needed dose of meaning and longevity into the world of dance music. 

Mark Knight has gone back to his roots on his new album Untold Business, reprising the sounds and records that made him the artist he is today. Diving through his extensive collection of classic Funk, House, Soul and Disco records from the 1970s and 80s has provided the bedrock for the album, which is an homage to the soulful, vocal-led house music that Mark first fell in love with in the 90s. 

A criticism often levelled at some modern dance records is that they are highly disposable. As the barriers to both production and releasing records have lowered, house music has become saturated with countless tracks, some of which take mere hours to throw together and are forgotten even more quickly, while the never-ending treadmill of DJ gigs have forced – 
even experienced producers into a cycle of producing purely functional records, with longevity and meaning barely considered. 

Step forward Mark Knight with a collection of meticulously crafted, positive, life-affirming records with a focus on real instrumentation and properly crafted songs that will stand the test of time. Untold Business is the antithesis of the functional, cookie-cutter dance music that has become increasingly ubiquitous over the years, and it sounds absolutely glorious.  

Lead single ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Alright’ features vocals from Beverley Knight as well as the London Community Gospel Choir, who together bring a powerful message of positivity, solidarity and hope: themes that echo throughout the rest of the album.

I feel that musicians and producers have a responsibility to provide the soundtrack to people’s lives, and with this glimmer of hope on the horizon, I wanted this song to be a moment of positivity for the future ahead.” Mark Knight

From the string section, to the 14-piece London Community Gospel Choir, to the incomparably brilliant Beverley Knight on lead vocals – Mark worked with some incredible musicians on the single: an approach that informs his approach for the entire album. Untold Business features further collaborations with the likes of Shingai (Noisettes), Michael Gray, Robert Owens and many more.

In addition to the 10 new tracks recorded especially for the album, Untold Business also includes three of Mark’s singles from 2020, including one of the biggest releases of his career to date. All 4 Love was a collaboration with Rene Amesz and Tasty Lopez which became firmly lodged on the Radio 1 A list for six weeks with worldwide success following soon after. Picking up more than 10 million streams on Spotify it was without doubt one of the biggest house records of the year. Also included here are ‘If It’s Love’ - a joyous celebration of a soulful house sound that came to prominence in the 90s – and ‘Tonight’, which took inspiration from the brisk, looping, filtered house music of the early 00s.

Theo Kottis (@theokottis) is the latest name to grace DGTL Records' reputed roster of artists. With a fascination for electronic music beginning at the age of 14, the Scottish DJ/Producer has quickly grown to become one of the UK’s most promising artists and DJs in his young career. His enthusiasm and talent behind the decks has led to his residency at Edinburgh’s FYI Club, Glasgow’s Sub Club, his 2018 studio album ‘Beautiful Strangers’ and regular features on BBC Radio 1. With an artistic style that can best be described as melodic-meets-emotional, this latest EP is a sonic ode to DJs who champion festival anthems.

Ushering in the EP, the first track ‘Sun’ was inspired by a particular poolside set Kottis played in Ibiza on a sunny afternoon. The track sits perfectly in between big studio tracks and festival anthems. Featuring a blend of long build ups and breakdowns, M1 synths and the driving element of a lead piano; the track was written with DGTL in mind. Inspired by the visual of dancing to the track at DGTL’s Amsterdam edition, the Edinburgh native deciphers its production as a great recipe to get the crowd moving.

For the second track of the release, Kottis delivers with ‘Sprint’. The second track on the EP is a case of the DJ/Producer’s experimental style, drawing from ‘feel good’ samples with dancefloor appeal. Kottis defines the track as a dedication to all the running that he’s undertaken during the lockdown, something that he says has “definitely been my savior”. With breakbeat drums, a prominent bassline and dramatic synth build ups forming the body of the production, the uptempo track is reminsecent of a late night club- anthem, rooted in experimental electronica.

The artwork for the EP is the last piece by artist Tasso Okinawa, finishing his series of macro photography. Like Tim Buiting and Tim Straver before him, he curated the artwork for a total of 6 releases.

Working the fields of Italo disco, rave, and house, TURNLAND co-chief FELICE delivers the goods with a smashing tune entitled "INFINITE SUBURBIA" which indeed can easily be tagged with the "Italo" moniker - a very modern and up to date, state of the art italo take that is. The tune is a stomping tour de force (or more likely a Giro d'Italia …) with razor-sharp piano stabs and DJ CITY sweetening the former instrumental track by adding marvelous icy cold yet laid-back vocals - a collaboration which came into being during the 2020 Covid summer. The latest signing from the region is fresh Ecuadorian talent ORDONEZ, resident of the world famous Lost Beach Club. THE SPELL EP is definitely one of the biggest releases of 2015 so far, which says a lot as it has been an amazing year so far!

Smooth grooving percussion pushes this track along while ORDONEZ weaves in the melody from a gritty Rhodes organ and adds to the magic with spiracles of electric piano. But then, the seductive vocals come to the front and the whole track opens up to become one of the catchiest tunes of the year. The drop after the long break is just... no words can describe it!
