PREMIERE - Disco Mortale & Futuristant - Until Together (Boots & Legs)

Following on from the success of Jorkes's Sweet Dream EP on the influential Live At Robert Johnson label, a wealth of innovative electronic talents all serve up their own remixes of it including Paris Böhm, Alinka, ROTCIV, Hard Ton, and more.

German-born but Austria-based Jorkes runs the Freeride Millenium label with her muse, lover, and partner Daniel Rajcsanyi aka. Paris Böhm. Her provocative work centralizes gender, queer and egalitarian attitudes, and her Sweet Dreams EP showed the many different sides of her sound.

It is Radio8000 resident ParisBöhm who offers the first remix of 'CDEvaLo'. It's slow and sensuous, with intimate spoken word vocals and lithe synths while the bubbling melodies add color. Next up is Ukraine-born but Berlin-based Alinka, whose hard-hitting sounds have come on the likes of Rekids and Crosstown. Her version of 'Sweet Dream' is uplifting and glossy with busy arps rising up over prickly drums. Acid gurgles add extra texture to this classy floor filler. Freeride Millenium associates Snecker aka Berghain resident DJ nd_baumecker and musician, singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and DJ Snax tackle the same track. In their hands, it becomes a steamy house cut with floating synth motifs and crisp claps over a tantalizing beat that never stops building.

ROTCIV is another Freeride Millenium artist who has a cultured and colorful sound built on alternating arpeggios, automated synth melodies, and weird vocals. His remix of 'You Will Be Mine' is a zoned-out vocal disco chugger with a rugged bassline. The cosmic rays up top and silky arps help the whole track take off. Italian duo and accomplished disco queens Hard Ton are all about hi-nrg beats and screaming acid bass whenever they release on Freeride Millenium or the likes of Toy Tonics. They remix 'You Will Be Mine' in typically high-impact fashion as crashing hits and drums pump the party underneath astral synths and libidinous vocals. Experimental Berlin art trio New Hook then step up to rework 'Robot Lover' into something beautifully atmospheric and melancholic with thoughtful chords over nu-disco grooves. This package is completed with a final fantastic Форм Remix of 'CDEvaLo' that adds yet another perspective.

All bases are covered in head-turning fashion on this vital remix EP.

Me encantaría que conozcan más sobre @balamok , quien este viernes 3 de febrero inicia su prometedora residencia en Artlab, compartiendo cabina con Que Sakamoto (Japon) y Viktoria Jauregui (La Plata).

¿Cómo describirías tu vínculo con la música?

Mi vínculo con la música electrónica comenzó hace muchos años, diría que desde el 97/98 cuando empecé a producir mi música con las primeras herramientas que había en computadora y luego adquiriendo sintetizadores, cajas de ritmo y demás. Siempre me gusto la magia que se logra con timbres de sonidos que uno mismo puede crear y generar que son muy personales, únicos y hasta a veces irreproducibles y que solo pasan una vez y que creo que solo se puede lograr a través de la música electrónica, aunque siempre fui adepto a combinarla con instrumentos orgánicos, nunca totalmente electrónica, siento que de esta manera tiene aún más vida.

En tu selecta hay un claro interés por el indie dance y el World music, ¿Por qué crees que te ves influenciado por esa música?

Un poco por lo que conteste antes, porque me gusta que la música electrónica este combinada con elementos orgánicos ya sea percusiones étnicas, guitarras u otros instrumentos de cuerdas o de viento, etc y que además sea bailable en su mayoría, y todo esto está muy cerca del Indie dance y el World Music, es música que se puede bailar y escuchar. Además me gusta mucho la música de culturas ancestrales latinoamericanos y del Medio Oriente combinadas con la electrónica, una expresión multicultural.

Por tu estudio, Submarea, ha pasado muchísima música de diversos artistas. Cuando trabajas el mixing o el mastering, ¿Te sentís parte de la obra? 

Si, “Submarea Estudio” es mi estudio de mezcla, mastering y producción para otros artistas y sellos, trabajó mucho para toda Europa, Israel, Colombia, Chile, México, Guatemala, Estados Unidos y por supuesto Argentina. Siempre que mezclo y masterizo, u obviamente cuando produzco, siento que estoy agregando una parte de mi en las obras, eso me encanta, me hace sentir parte del trabajo de los artistas y me encanta que les vaya lo mejor posible a todos los que pasan por el estudio. De hecho en este mixtape la mayoría de los tacks, diría el 90% los mezcle, masterice o ambos, y también produje alguno de ellos.

El 3 de febrero arrancas a ser uno de los residentes de “El Club del Ritmo” nuevo ciclo de Artlab, ¿Qué responsabilidad conlleva este rol y que te gustaría aportar?

Bueno me encanta esa responsabilidad, ya lo he hecho con un ciclo que tenía que duró casi 10 años que se llamó “Safari Club” por el que pasaron casi todos los DJs de Argentina y muchos internacionales, me gusta mucho generar una identidad y espacio donde todos puedan participar en algún momento y no cerrarse solo a un núcleo de gente. Y ya de entrada comencé aportando el nombre del ciclo “Club del Ritmo” que remite directamente a que el ciclo abarca una amplia identidad musical, desde Indie Dance hasta World Music, pasando por House, Disco, Acid, Dark Disco, Organic House, Afro House, Folk Electrónico, Psicodelia, downtempo, electrónica y leftfield.

Es un placer y un honor que me hayan convocado de Artlab, una de las mejores salas de Buenos Aires, para desarrollar este nuevo ciclo junto a grandes artistas y colegas.

Premiering releases of established labels is definitely a great responsibility. A challenge that, of course, we feel an enormous pleasure in accomplishing. We have a confession, though: Every time we are requested to review a track of the very first release of a new imprint, we feel something else, a different kind of bond as if we were going to be part of the history of the new project forever. With the kick-off of Spazio Label, things would not be different: We feel truly honoured for having the privilege of reviewing a piece of the Russian platform’s debut release. And what a debut!

Featuring 12-made-with-love cuts, soon available in K-7 and digital formats, the volume one of the VA “Spazio Invasore” showcases the rich sonority of the project by bringing together friends & resident DJs and their respective contributions: Nu Disco, New Beat, Indie Dance, Proto House, Neo Italo, and Modern Disco were brought the party.

The theme we were solicited to present, Bogdan Ra’s “Royal Flush”, is a game-winner. Beautiful arpeggios, melodic guitar riffs, dreamy pads, frolic percussive elements, and a dynamic bassline set the mood of the funkiest theme of the compilation.

“Taac Attack” by Ruvido Records’ head honcho Cristian Croce and Sapo (owner of the Milan based label Mad on the Moon), is a playful, jacking Chicago House inspired cut with heavy distorted vocal loops and samples. 
The Cristian Croce edit of “Yndian Gibolly” by the mysterious duo Fabbrio & Giara is a distorted, arpeggio-heavy cut that might sound something like a Hieroglyphic Being remix of “Lata Ramasar – The Greatest Name That Lives”.

Rude Audio (aka Mark Ratcliff) and Dan Wainwright, from South London and North Wales respectively, have paired their creative energies to create Psychedelic Science, an eight track dub excursion with its sights set on the feet and the head and on the home and the club.
Dan and Mark have backgrounds in electronic dance music which has in the past pricked the ears, radio shows and playlists of the likes of Don Letts, Justin Robertson and the much missed Andrew Weatherall.
They are joined on their trip by friends such as the legendary driver of Ken Kesey’s Magic Bus, counter – culture legend Ken Babbs, who at the age of 84 provides a showstopping vocal for a ten minute, psychedelic dub cover of Bowie’s ‘Heroes’.
Elsewhere Dan and Mark find the dub spirit and take it to places new: the sweet bassline led, sci fi splendour of Fire On The Mountain; El Qasr’s off kilter dynamics and bottom end rumble; Talking To The Sun’s heliocentric spaced out sounds, with the spirit of Lord Sabre finding its way in.
There’s no escaping the other influences at work here- mycological and herbal as well as musical. At the end, the pair hit the psychedelic dub motherlode with an eighteen-minute exploration of space and sound in the shape of the epic, chilled, progressive Patience Dub (A Prog Odyssey) which is the sum of the sounds and experiences of Rude Audio and Dan Wainwright, all percolating in one expansive trip.

We were joined by Ken Kesey's right hand man on the Acid Test, Ken Babbs and psychedelic and spiritual guru, Mr Ram Dass, for part of the trip"

The imprint has been establishing a solid ground for the new Frankfurt sound since 2009.
